I replaced the rear wheel bearings on my '76 2002. The e12 is probably not that much different. It was a real PITA. Took alot of hammering to get them out. Pressing them back in was even worst - had to partially reassemble (backwards) to get the inner bearing in, pull the hub off, and reassemble with the outside bearing. Kind of unconventional, but it worked. Next time, I think I'll pay someone to do it who has the right bearing press. Has to make life alot easier if you have the right tools. Hope this helps.
