My '79 528i had two temp. switches installed in the radiator. I used the radiator for "big six" E28 (533i/535i) and the two temp switches fit just right. Even the wiring harness for them was long enough to reach comfortably.
You'll need to cut (I used a very sharp metal chisel) to remove the radiator mounting brackets from the core support and drill holes to use the mounting hardware you got with the radiator (or from the dealer).
Also, the hoses are somewhat different. I'm using the 533i/535i radiator hoses which fit perfectly.
