2) For me, a 528 with an automatic would not be acceptable. They are considerably slower and consume more fuel. I would buy it if it were in otherwise excellent condition and I had the money/time for a 5-speed conversion. There are excellent '80-'81 cars out there with 5-speeds already.
3) If you're not a BMWCCA member, join now. If you are, open your Roundel and find the phone number for your local TIPS rep. Call and ask for a referral to someone who knows E12s and can inspect the car for you.
4) The Roundel is also and excellent source of cars for sale by members. So is the chapter newletter in most places.
