: Thanks for the help Peter,
: Maybe this can narrow it down for you.

: : a) Does it hold pressure?
: I'm not too sure, but I think so, I need to check that out for sure. Is there an easy way to tell? (I took off the refil plug and depressed the plunger and some air escaped under pressure)

If it was warm you should have had over 100 psi in it. If it was less than comes out of a tire, it's empty. At $35.00 a lb for R-12 you'll need to be sure.

You should feel the tube leaving the receiver (little cylinder with site glass on it) going into the firewall. That tube (hot liquid line) with the ac running should be > 120 degrees. If it's not warm either:

a) It's empty (most likely)

b) compressor not working

Larger line coming back out of firewall (suction line) is supposed to be COLD.

I would bet it's empty. If you don't have guage set, you'll be limited as to what you can do. I would inspect all the fittings for signs of oil (left when freon leaked out).

Did you try it after it was filled?

Peter
