: : : Stick with the stock e12 calipers if you can. They are four piston calipers and are about the best you are going to do.
: As noted by W., the E28 M5 has 4-piston calipers very similar to those on our cars. The only reason to install them on an E12 is to get the M5 rotor (larger diameter & thicker) onto our cars. I think all that's needed is a custom-made bracket.
So if the E28 M5 has similar calipers and slightly
larger (diameter and width) rotors, how do those
rotors compare to the largest of the rotors that
fit on our cars? Width wise, they must be close.
How much bigger are the E28 M5 rotors in diameter
compared to the big 7 rotors? Would there be that
big of a difference between them? I'm thinking of
doing the big 7 rotor upgrade when I wear out my
existing rotors. No major mods (other than slight
caliper grinding) required. Likely similar results
with very strong (safe) stock caliper mounts.
Changing the spindles, changing the caliper mount
brackets, changing caliper and rotor and pads all
for just a -little- bit more brakes? Do it the
cheap & easy way - use what fits...
