OK, I can't resist participating after seeing everyone else's lists & realizing I am not so weird after all.

1. '70 VW Bug. High School ride. Poured every penny I made (plus several generous donations from Dad)into it from flipping burgers. I live in So. Cal., and was 17, so of course I had to lower it, strip off all the chrome, & put 1-piece side windows for that cool look. Eventually built a hot 2 liter with dual Webers (a 4 banger that got 10mpg). Bugs with some power are wild rides. It would pull the front wheels off the ground in 1st & 2nd gear!

2. '87 VW GTI. First new car. Very fun. Put some Neuspeed suspension goodies on it. This car got me addicted to going around corners.

3. '86 Nissan Pulsar. The car my wife brought into the mix. Man I hated that car. Ugly, slow, no A/C, rear suspension shimmied, but I must say it never broke.

4. '80 Honda Accord & '68 Chevelle SS 327 4-speed. Got rid of #2 & 3 above to get rid of payments and save up for a house. The Honda got her to work & back, the Chevy got me to work & back with a grin. This is the car that got me addicted to torque. Wish I still had it. Can a man be a muscle car AND BMW enthusiast?

5. '91 Honda Civic hatchback & '91 Mazda Protege. Our first new cars after buying our house. The wife convinced me to sell the SS since "OUR money would be going into the house, not that car". Man, I wish I still had that car.

6. '92 Dodge Caravan. New job, company car. Out went the Civic. Driving a minivan is not as excrutiating as I thought it would be.

7. '93 Dodge Intreped. Replacement company car for Caravan. Pretty decent car I must say. For a big American sedan, it handles pretty good and stayed tight for 70k.

8. '94 GMC 1/2 ton w/350 V8. New house-home improvement projects-stuff to haul. After dragging my wife on a test drive, she decides that she likes to drive it (automatic), and will drive it to work.

9. '95 Chevy Astro. Another new, better job, company car. The wife gets a promotion as well, & decides she wants to spend our newfound money on some car called an Aurora that her friend just got....

10. '95 Olsmobile Aurora. Lemon, Olds gives us another one after 2 months of misery. The second one is much better. I find out Olds ran our first one through a dealer in Oregon to some poor undeserving soul. Did I see something about this crap on 60 Minutes or 20/20? I really liked the Northstar V8. Has a sound a lot like a 540i from inside when you get on it. GM still does not know how to make a nice car stay together though. Rattles like crazy from 6k miles on up.

11. '96 Honda Accord LX auto. Wife decides the Aurora is not worth the mega payment (I also find out she is having maternal thoughts). I made a friend in the Honda business who sold the Aurora for me so I did'nt take a bath, & got me the Accord below invoice.

12. '87 Honda Accord. The wife decides no car payment at all would be nice.

13. '81 BMW 528i. Dad gets a job transfer to Utah, & asks me if I want his BMW that I have always liked. SURE!! His driving tastes have been much purer than mine- all Volkswagens, Audi's, & BMW's. I recall sitting on his briefcase as a booster riding around in the '67 1600. Lately though he has been driving a Kia Sportage that he got while working briefly for Kia USA. Dad- we need to find you a real ride!! Maybe a '91 M5?

14. '94 Dodge Grand Caravan (this last weekend). 2 kids, 2 car seats, double stroller, and tons of stuff (Honey, why do we need all this?), and the Accord is bursting at the seams. So I sold the Honda Accord and got the Caravan that had just been taken in trade from a retired couple who figured out they did not need a minivan.

I think that is all of them. I collect front license plates as I go, you should see my garage!!

: I'm finding this thread very entertaining...

: I'm guessing there is some sort of evolutionary reason we've ended up with an e12 for a reason. It's not the cheapest car, it's not the easiest to maintain, etc. So how did we get here?

: It HAS to havesomething todo with what we've owned before.

: My list, starting from ground zero:

: 1) Briggs & Stratton powered Go-Kart (first ride with four wheels)
: 2) Honda XR75 (still not old enough to legally drive)
: 3) Suzuki TR125

: 4) '69 Ford Mustang Fastback (250 c.i., enhanced with three carbs later and a B&M shift kit)
: 5) '75 Fiat 124 Spyder, massively altered with a turbocharger. Don't ask, I dont remember. (same color as my '75 2002, Colorado Orange)
: 6) Brand spanking new '79 Vespa P200e, which I totally tricked out. It even had a cigarette lighter. ;)
: 7) '78 Toyota SR5 Pickup.
: 8) '75 Yamaha RD 350
: 9) '85 Yamaha RZ 350 (faster than every car I have ever owned)
: 10) Renault LeCar (same color as my '75 2002, Colorado Orange)
: 11) Ford F100 Pickup (454 Motor, Canadian, stump puller)
: 12) '93 Subaru Impreza (this one only had two wheel drive. My Fiance owns it, but I drive it all the time. Kicks ass)
