My MM catalog shows that MM modifies the rear subframe to accept a rear loading diff. I have not heard anyone comment that they have used this set up. If the installation was engineered well, it would allow you to use any rear loader diff. I think the side loader is a more stout item however.
My LSD wish list, in order of desireability:
First choice- keep my original open diff. & buy a Quaiffe to put in it (about $1500 plus install).
Second choice- find a factory LSD & rebuild to about 50% lock-up
Third choice- check into the modified subframe idea, and if it works go that route.
: : Tim,
: : Good luck finding one of these. A very few e12s had them. E9 coupe owners want them, so that makes them an expensive item. Probably your best bet is to keep an eye out in junkyards and classifieds for one. You'll be able to recognize one when you see it as it will have an "s" stamped on the side. The reason you can't use later limited slips is because we need a side-loader limited slip. Later models used rear loader limited slips. Or is it the reverse?
: At one time Metric Mechanic made an adapter to allow use of later style LS on E12 and E24.

: What about E23. Did they have LS? Does it fit?
