Re: Water control valve replacement - HVAC removal?

First off the HVAC is two separate components although they do share some things including the face level output. Removing the A/C would do nothing to aid you except allow you to then remove the heater. However, while a bear of a job, it is not necessary to remove the heat or A/C. You have just enou...

Re: Brake bleed screw size?

I strongly suspect the size, taper and thread pitch are the same, but length may be different. If you're really a 5 hour drive, try to figure out what length it is and PM me, I may have something in my absurd stash of stuff.

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

Yes, that was my point, the more airflow the higher the temp will be. The expansion valve "should" keep it from freezing up but I had my first E12 freeze up one time when it was just a tiny bit low on charge. Noticed the lack of airflow and when I stopped to get gas a huge puddle formed un...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

Serious question: has anyone ever measured airflow in cfm at the outside vents? Less than a heavy breather. I don't have a cfm reading, but Road Test magazine measured the air out of the 1975 530i's vents as approx 40F. The stock system will make cold air on R12, if you have no leaks and everything...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

You might be onto something with the blower, but it might be in the ducting too, I believe Es 12 and 28 use the same heater blower but E28s put out more fresh air. At worst I don't see it hurting as long as it fits. And the way E12s use one air output for 2 different sources is not a good design, ag...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

Btw, seems my iphone foto files are too large to upload here. Can anyone tell me the best way to get a typical iphone/ipad image to the right size? Or maybe what else I’m not doing right? You can't upload directly here. Pictures have to be hosted elsewhere. https://imgur.com/ seems to be the best/e...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

I think dryers are pretty generic, if retaining the old flare type fittings, that's more what you have to look for. They're common on all sorts of refrigeration equipment, just not modern auto A/C which uses O rings. When I rebuilt the A/C on my Bavaria long ago I used a dryer I found at a flea mark...

Re: Spring color codes

You might already have this, but in case you don't here it is, the spec's from the Blue book. While no blue springs are listed, they do list 3 different wire diameters for rear springs.

Re: Sideloader is a 188mm?

I've suspected that for years but never really dove into it. At one time I had plenty of surplus spare diffs, worth next to nothing and could have explored, but no more. However... Now I don't know how critical it really is, I suspect it's not really as touchy as it's made out to be, that machining ...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

The key to noise or the lack of it is to keep the factory's 2 speed operation. I don't even recall being able to hear the factory 528i fan running on low speed with the A/C on. High speed yeah, that sounds like a plane getting ready to take off, but low speed is all that's required for the A/C.

It's not bad practice, but unless it seems dirty or contaminated I wouldn't bother.

Re: Steering lock kill switch?

Not sure why two wires, but it's probably for the euro and early US parking lights where you can turn the turn signal switch to the left and have the taillight and front running light on that side light up. Kind of a cool feature, but when I've had it on cars I don't think I ever used it.

Correct. Clearance is so tight some have doubted it, but it does.

Re: Steering lock kill switch?

Stuck on how to remove the cylinder. Is there a set screw underneath the red dot? https://ibb.co/sWHNqHj Yes. They call it a grub screw, it's very small, don't lose it. Basic slotted screw. Stuck on cylinder removal - does the brass plate around the keyhole pop out? No, I don't think so. At least I...
