Re: 3rd brake light

I did on my last one. I just connected it to the brake light circuit. I used an E28 3rd brake light. (actually probably an E28 package shelf with the brake light back when they were still common in the DIY yards)

Re: battery earth cable

I'm a little unclear on what exactly you intend to do. The negative/ground from the battery to the block has to carry a lot of current on start. So whatever you do, it has to be able to carry a bunch of current, at least briefly. IIRC E28s just ran a little negative cable to the body, then a ground ...

Carl at La Jolla Independent in La Jolla is another possibility, he has a wealth of parts. Good guy too.

Re: Reluctant to move in reverse gear.

Not if it's inside the rotor/drum. But maybe try jacking it up and trying to rotate the tire backwards.

Re: Reluctant to move in reverse gear.

Welcome to the group TNmtnBoy.

I've not heard of that before but brakes not clutch or transmission is what comes to mind. Maybe something came loose in the parking brake system which lives inside the rear rotors.

Re: Steering center links

As one who takes pride in doing or even attempting to do what can't be done, I think you're radically under estimating the job here. I'm not actually sure how it's assembled, but it's definitely not meant to come apart. And remember you're dealing with steering here, not like A/C or even an internal...

Re: New b6 shock issues

I want to think the oddball nuts fit E3/Bavarias, I know they had some odd sizes there. E12s I think all used the same size and the link also suggests so. It's possible the shocks are for a Bavaria, although how much if any difference besides the nut there is I don't know, the suspension was very, v...

Re: fuel door spring

I've R and R'd the assembly before with no issues, but on the side mount, not rear, though it is probably the same design. Not sure how useful it will be, but here's the image from Realoem. #4 is listed as fill in flap and #5 is the spring.

Re: Valve Train Tick

I would suggest going thru and doing it again. Be very careful about the position of the cam lobe, the ramp starts before you think and it can be just a tiny bit onto the opening or closing ramp causing you to misadjust a valve. On the rocker arm. There is a separate steel or cast iron or whatever p...

Re: Odometer gears

Putting the needle back on the speedometer was very unsettling, but he has a method to do it and it works. Putting the needle back on? I've never pulled it off do fix odo gears. I have removed the screws that hold the face on to loosen it up and get more working room, but never pulled the needle off.

Re: Odometer gears

I think you're going to have to look. At least I don't know the number. Unless you think or know it's a problem, I wouldn't bother with the lead gear. Actually I think it's zinc, not lead, but he shows lead. The plastic one is typically the one that fails, either by splitting in half, sometimes losi...

Re: Reviving 528i - No Start - Advice Needed

Josh! Long time no see. I would first verify fuel delivery, detaching the return hose from the FPR and running the fuel pump by pushing on the AFM flap. See what the fuel looks like coming out of it, and continue to run it to flush it if you think it's needed. That's after the FPR so you would then ...

What I might do in addition is add a dab of epoxy to the screw head to tack it to the back of the plate.
I wouldn't. The original design is floating, not fixed. That way things can move around without metal fatigue.
