Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right

Just a note that if you need to replace your strut mounts, the E12 front strut mount (part no. 31331101663) is identical to Part 31331106060 for the 2.5CS-3.0 CSL (04/1971 — 11/1975) and the 2500-3.3Li (08/1968 — 02/1977) with the exception of the length of the locator bolts. The 6060 part is much ...

Re: Engine block paint / coating recommendations?

Looks great. I did the same to my engine block when I had the intake off. although looks like you did a perfect job removing the rust and old paint. I just removed the worst and covered it up with paint. Nice job

Re: Cylinder head

Excellent write up there Jon. I would add that as far as I know the headbolts are not stretch bolts or "torque to yield" and can be used again. I used mine again without any problems but if your fussy you can buy new ones. From what I've read most guys do the timing chain while in there . I didn't o...

I can't see your pics but I feel your pain. I've been partway into that center console area and it a maze of stuff. Good luck. Taking pics helps for sure

Re: Vanishing coolant discovered

No problem, I did have a pic posted of the realoem schematic of the two coolant hoses that go in and out in the engine bay to help you but it doesn't seem to have worked. Good luck with that hopefully its just a loose clamp.

Re: Exhaust Manifold and Thermal Reactors

I don't know much about headers, I've heard some of them don't fit well and then you have to pay someone to weld to connect to the rest of your system. Personally I like BMW exhaust systems. Theres used stuff out there and I think all the mufflers for these cars are available new. Not cheap but hey'...

Re: Vanishing coolant discovered

I dont think #6 is going to be a part that is causing a leak. Its called a gasket but it looks to me its a piece of foam padding that the inlet and outlet water pipes go through the firewall to get to and from the engine to the heater core. When I changed all my coolant hoses I had a leak similar to...

Re: Exhaust Manifold and Thermal Reactors

Welcome to the forum. Where in Canada are you? Take a look at my project posting. I have a 77 and removed the thermal reactors. Theres a pic of what they look like VS the regular exhaust manifolds . There is also a post in the FAQs on removing all the EGR stuff that is part of the thermal reactor ni...

Re: Motronic 1.3 conversion

Lock, Hey this is great to see you doing. I think staying with the old style log intake is the way to go for sure. Those injector top hat things are interesting. Going with the e12 fuel rail will simplify the fuel rail issue. Nice work. I see this conversion in my future someday after a bunch of oth...

Re: cylinder head swap

OK so I was curious about those pistons and asked my BMW guru buddy and he said all b28s had those pistons so its nothing special. Sorry I got over excited. Another guy I know found a 528i in a yard a while back with the head off and asked me the same thing. I'll be doing the same thing later on my ...

Re: cylinder head swap

I'm not positive myself. I've always heard about piano top pistons in the high comp euro engines. No first hand experience myself. I didn't know they came in NA engines. Worth looking into.
