Re: Headlight R + R

Gary, great post, I've heard of the oven method of prying the glass off. I just was too lazy to try. Although grinding the caulking off the bulb holder to gain access to the reflector part of the lamp was a lot of time wasted as well. I may try that glass removal method some time. I assume those Hel...

Re: Headlight R + R

Gary, Thats about what I did. It seems to me the only way is to actually scrub the crap off. I also experimented with a bad lamp and cut of the rear metal bulb housing from the reflector using a dremel to cut the caulking/epoxy. then you can get in there easier. It worked well. Then used rubber caul...

Re: Headlight R + R

I'v spent a lot of time trying to clean out used euro lamps. Even older brand new lamps seem to get that fogging. Its damn hard to clean out. Ive used a stick with bits of rag and cleaner to try to scrub the fog off the glass with some success but access is also very hard. theres lots of posts onlin...

Re: 77 530i Auto trans "kick down" linkage picture?

OK, interesting. I was just looking at pics of my engine in my gallery project posting and my 77 doesn't have that cable coming from the TB. I do remember a cable I think that was attached to the throttle linkage down under where it connected to the gas pedal. I think.... :? I have to go through my ...

Re: 77 530i Auto trans "kick down" linkage picture?

I don't think that 79 528i is the same as Karls 77 530i. My 77 530i didn't have that cable coming from the throttle body. Is that the accelerator cable?. My 77 has a solid rod and pivot type accelerator linkage. Karl my car had the Borg warner 3 spd, unfortunately I just removed all that and took th...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal

Champie, OK thx for the info. I hadn't heard of newspaper before. Sounds a good option to the bread. I've had my eye out for a broken 4 spd for a while . I had an opportunely to get my hands on one a while ago but I had to pull it from the car and I was too lazy. Hoping to find one locally someday f...

Re: difficult or PITA bolts etc - for amusement!

I got a pita nut removal.I just had to remove the heater valve after finding it was dripping while I was in there removing the pedal box and driveshaft. http://www.firstfives.org/faq/heater_valve/heater_valve.html. I followed this thread to remove the valve without removing all the blower motors etc...

Re: Speedo cable drive oring replacement

Well I managed to pop out the sleeve that is holding the seal inside the speedo drive housing. I dont think the hydrualic method would work on this Mike , the housing is like a metal tube, there nothing to stop the oil from just coming out the other end. I bend a small scewdriver and then tapped the...

Mike , great work as always. I've never seen that interior block paint before. Very interesting. Of course most of what you are doing I haven't seen before. Good luck with the move etc. And also with the garage planning and building.
