Re: Steering lock kill switch?
This turned out to be one of those jobs that seems pretty simple after doing it once. I got hung up on thinking I didn't need to, or want to, remove the 4 fracture bolts holding the column to the case dreading the idea of having to chisel them out. It dawned on me the reason why they're fracture bol...

Re: Steering lock kill switch?
Thanks Mike. So the assembly slides out after removing the grub screw? Towards the outside of the column?

Re: Power steering fluid purge
Agree with Mike, just siphon it out and change it a few times. Also, there’s a filter at the bottom of the canister hidden underneath a plate. The filter is NLA from BMW but available in the aftermarket. https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-556011-oil-filter/?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItq78v-G...

Re: OK to use synthetic oil in trans and diff?
I’ve been using Redline MTL in the transmission and Redline 75/90 in the differential with no problems. Trans actually shifted more smoothly when I switched to Redline which was around 8 years ago.

Re: What Sanden AC compressor do you recommend?
I've been told that R12 flows better with a non-parallel condenser. And having some R12 and a NOS condenser is taking me down this path along with a general consensus is that R12 blows colder. And I want to avoid fabricating brackets for a universal condenser although it looks like the ACsolutions c...

What Sanden AC compressor do you recommend?
This is the year of working AC. I have several NOS parts including a condenser so thought I would stay original and have the Bosch compressor rebuilt. So I sent it off to a well known rebuilder, Jay Stratton, and found there are internal parts that are NLA and it's not rebuildable. If anyone is thin...

Re: Radiator replacement
I’ve had a Chinese made aluminum radiator in my Ford truck for about 4 years and it’s been fine. I doubt this would be a drop-in replacement for an e12 but you never know. It looks close at least.

Re: Steering Box Adjustment Screw
I replaced mine with a polyurethane one but can’t remember where I found it. The original looked good but must have had a bit of play as I noticed a slight difference.

Eric,
I know this seems obvious but have you checked the rag joint in the steering shaft?

Re: Which distributor do I need? 528i
The distributor is driven at the camshaft end, both meshing with helical gears and the distributor is bolted to the head. Is the entire distributor being “spit” out of the head? I’m not sure how that could happen but then I’ve never experienced what you’re describing. If that did happen you have a m...

Re: Steering lock kill switch?
MIne's at 205k and it's been like this for at least 10k miles so I'm replacing the lock and switch at the same time. Looks like the easiest way is to remove the steering column and do it on the bench. I fortunately found a NOS lock cylinder a few years ago but I haven't found any information on re-k...
