Mounting trunk model badge

I recently sourced a NOS trunk badge for my E12. I'd like to plan ahead before removing the old one. The new one has some small pins that seem to hold the numbers to the black backing plate, but they don't look long enough for mounting to the car. I also checked the inside of the trunk lid - it's do...

Re: Repairing/replacing seat covers?

Looks like BMW made a run of bottom seat cushions (part 52101841381). They're not cheap, but ECS says they can get one in 2 days. Schmiedmann is my go to resource to determine if obscure parts are truly available. They can supposedly get one in 20 days.

Re: Repairing/replacing seat covers?

Thank you all for the replies! I plan to take the seat to a local upholstery shop that I've used before and get their opinion.

Repairing/replacing seat covers?

My E12 has black vinyl seats. The only things letting down the otherwise exceptional interior are the typical headliner glue stains and a small hole in the driver seat bottom cover. I want to fix the seat cover hole and am trying to decide on the best solution. 1. Can covers be removed and reinstall...

Thank you!

OK to use synthetic oil in trans and diff?

I want to replace the trans and diff oils in my E12 for the first time during my ownership. It's older than any other BMW I've owned by 10+ years. Is it ok to use synthetic oil or should I stick with conventional for the trans and diff? It's the only BMW I've owned that leaks zero fluids! Thanks, Cory

Re: What Sanden AC compressor do you recommend?

I bought brackets from Layne in 2022 for the M20 and M30. I immediately installed the M20 bracket on one of my E30s and put the M30 bracket on the shelf, just in case I need it someday and Layne is no longer making them. He recommended the Sanden 709 for the M20. Layne is great to work with. Why not...

As long as you can get it tight enough not to slip once in the air, you can fully torque it in the air as you locked it in position already.
Excellent. Thank you.

Re: Front Control Arms - Load Suspension?

If you watch M539 Restorations, Streten often torques up the suspension bushes with a preload, and he does this by first measuring the wheel height - relative to the wheel arch with car on the ground, then once car is in the air, Jacks up the wheel to that measurement, then torques the bolts/nuts. ...

Front Control Arms - Load Suspension?

Good morning fellow E12 fans. I plan to replace the front control arms on my 530i this weekend. Do I need to load the front suspension before tightening the inner bushing bolt? If so, has anyone using a 2-post lift loaded a front corner with a screw jack while also supporting the rear? I'm totally s...

Re: Aux Fan Relay

Thanks for all the responses. Once I determined that I could use a relay with resistor, it was easy to find a replacement. Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem (aux fan works fine with AC on but will not turn on from high water temp). More electrical troubleshooting to do - fun!

Re: Aux Fan Relay

Good question. There do seem to be an excessive amount of part numbers on these cube relays and seemingly multiple supercession lineages. I've got these two relays in use in my fuse boxes on multiple vehicles: Bosch (black plastic case): 0 332 019 451 Bosch (orange plastic case): 0 332 019 456 Thes...

Aux Fan Relay

In all my BMW adventures, this is the first time I've ever tried to replaced a relay! I would like to replace the aux fan relay on my '77 530i. The current relay is a Bosch 0332014406. No luck so far finding that part number new. Does anyone know if the current BMW part number is 61311373588, which ...

There seems to be an aftermarket option available on Amazon. Part # MTC 1082. Have no idea of the quality.
