lower idle after long run

It's Spring, and I've done enough work on Sophie to make her a DD....almost. I've noticed that after 50 or so miles, she idles lower, and real quiet....600 to 800. Still purring, but I am wondering, a little sluggish when down there off the line. Some of you know I recently fixed a huge exhaust prob...

Eric, I checked mine today and sure nuff', the nuts on the the passenger side were/are lose. I tightened them up some, not too much space in there, but it made a noticeable difference. Goes into second much better and all the other gears are completely smooth now. I think I had much bigger issues th...

Eric-My name is Chris or CP. Mike W.- Once again, thank you. Sometimes I literally need things SPELLED out and SHOWN to me even when I should get it myself. I was looking for something that is not there and I mickey moused what was put in for the five speed a couple years later. I would not have see...

Eric- Does she goes into all other gears fine? Have you checked the bolts on the shift mount plate yourself? I think I am going to do that. And, excuse me for budding in on this. I'm just experiencing some of the same things, although I think I have a bit more to do. And, it sounds like some people ...

I'm chiming in on this one as I have had some of the same problems on my 530i, 4spd. It's really tough going into 2nd, no grinding, but I have to "pop" it in there for sure. And, with 1st gear it seems I have to be at a dead stop, and it kinda goes up and over the the right a bit. 3rd and ...

Hey. Take the distributor cap off again and look around the exposed rim of the distributor for a small space machined in. That's the mark for the #1 cylinder. I think you said you have a manual, but the firing order is also marked on the valve cover rear passenger side. Check the timing after that a...

Greg- He welded everything. They were cracked right at up the the flange so there was no space to wrap anything around. Did a full round weld and then beads on top of that. The day on PCH sounded sweet. I worked at Gladstones for 3 years . I know Dukes and Malibu well. Had my first 5 then and it was...

And one more thing, when you get around to it, check out the Pertronix ignition system instead of points. It was one of the first things I did when I got my 530 and I have been EXTREMELY happy with it. Some people prefer to leave the points but I don't think about mine anymore. Although I do keep th...

Whelp, I'm in a small town which does not have a muffler shop, but it does have a Metal Fabrication shop. Brought them over there, and one of the good things about being in Oregon and in a small town is that you can get things done for a very fair price. Both pipes re-welded, thick, for 40 bucks tot...

Thanks Greg, Actually, I'm just really trying to find out what my options are. I've searched online and only found a couple places that look like they have them new and quite exspensive. I'm trying to figure out if I should try and find a local pic your part or salvage yard and pull some mysef. Thou...

Where to find exhaust down pipes for 530 new or used.

Hey all, I finally got around to checking my exhaust leak and it's both down pipes from the thermal reactors, cracked where they meet the flanges. They'd been fixed before and I know I had messed with the car enough that the motor did wiggle and giggle sometimes. Slowly got worse and worse Anyways, ...

E28 exhaust gaskets for my E12- is this recommended?

Hey Everybody, I asked about exhaust gaskets for my 78' about a month ago while I was on a trip from Portland up to Seattle. It's slowly gotten louder over time and I realized after a 3 or 4 hour drive I am left with a headache and I also know if not taken care of it can cause compression problems. ...

I'm still thinking it's the AFM. And, on my 78' the ground for the AAV was on the front of the manifold on the passenger side, not on the rear back by the firewall. I cleaned EVERY wire I could find again, Starter, battery, altenator, grounds. It runs good when warmed up. But starts low still, 800 r...
