I think it all depends on what condition your gas tank is in. Was there old gas in it? Or was it dry? You really have to get a good look in there. Sometimes there fine, other times they need to be dropped and boiled. If there is rust and gunk in there...that's no good.. If it looks okay, change the ...

wkohler is right......If it's been sitting that long, and it wasn't stored properly, the tank probably needs to be cleaned and the fuel lines are also most likely torched and the fuel pump might be dead as well and an old filter. You should definitely check all that stuff and then move on from there...

Hey,

I would do what the other guys said. Put some marvel in the gas tank too. Check the fuel lines, clean all the electrical connections from the battery, (especially the neg. line to the car from the battery), ones that go to the starter as well.

Good luck!

Got around to it last week and it was pretty much what you all said. Got in there with a clothes hanger and scraped out a bunch of deposit until it trickled then ran.... Flushed and ran a few times, let it sit over night. Did it again the next morning and got half as much, but still enough to be gla...

Once again..................................... Thanks Mike, and Blaise. Thought it would be a much quicker deal, and had already done the brake+master a few days ago. Work weekends and Mondays and didn't have the time to mess with it. I'll get back in there in a couple days. I should have known as ...

Does the hole come straight down or flow from the sides?

Thanks Blaise, How far does the hole go back? It kind of looked like it went back about an inch and came from the sides. Does is go back a couple/ three inches and come straight down? Looked like threads ended and went back half an inch? Means I definitely have some sludge back there. Need to pull i...

Nothing came out.......Took off the cap on the expansion reservoir.....nothing......Sprayed some PB blaster in there and scaped out more crud. I was just going to flush it like I did a cou...

Thanks Mike, Jeff and Blaise..

Happy I didn't go to pull the bolt in the front! Wondering how much gunk I will get out of there.

Cheers

I was just about to do this. It's near the BACK side of the engine block???

I just looked a couple days ago, and I though it was the large bolt near the front.....

Think I need to look again...

"Prone" is a good word.

I'm going to post one more time on this next week once I do my flush and see what happens. It has been running a little hotter than usual.

Your temp gauge is different than mine. I can't remember, but isn't your car a 78', or it is a 77'? Mine has 3 white lines and split into quarters, not thirds. Once again, I THINK I remember reading that these cars are suppose to run hot. There was a website server change last year and many older po...

Well, got it all putting together and finished bleeding it all this morning;. Took her for a spin, and what a difference! Pedal goes about a 1/3 of the distance it did, maybe have way. Nice feeling not having the pedal go to the floor anymore.... The reman. calipers I received also ended up being AT...

Since your going to do the calipers, and the car sat for a long time, you might want to think about doing the Master Cylinder as well. There's probably some junk it. I just did this all yesterday and am happy the brakes are ALL DOne.

ALso, welcome. Hope things are good in Norway.

hey Blaise Excuse my rants. I can talk better than I can wrench.... I really do wish I had the shop and knowledge you did. You an engineer of some sort? You know BMW. Anyways, I'm pretty sure if you've cleaned the radiator all out, especially with the acid, and you bleed it correctly and such, your ...

Hey Blaise, Not nearly as mechanically inclined as yourself, but have a 78' and been reading through here for a while and this is what I know. The best thing to do is do find one from an E28. I'm thinking you saw that in the FAQ. I'm also thinking you flushed out the system already when you got your...
