Of course the valves rotate. A perfect environment for an eccentric to nest within a cup on the top of the valve. The eccentric is circular and hits the geometric center of the valve stem.

Seems like the idea of cam side measurements are not in many of our toolboxes...?

But what if the lobes are fittin to cups on top of the vales, the clearance would be too much. Is there a good rule on cam side clearance checking?

Cam side or valve side valve adjustments?

I understand the difference, it sounds like a cam side check is a good way to verify whether there is any valve top cupping. I use .012 on the valve side what should the cam side feeler clearance?

Borrowed the temp tool from the shop after having the radiator tested, it was fine. Turned out the thermostat was stuck shut from being dry for 5 years. I popped it free and now everything seems to run a lot cooler. 180 at the neck now. Just need to get the Hc levels a little higher to cool the exha...

Noisy injectors

Got the 5 back on the road finally, mostly there on the smog check, it runs a little lean, playing around with resistors on the CTS circuit. I have noticed the injectors seem to be noisier that I recall. The E12 is not exactly well insulated from engine noise. Here's my question, there seems to be a...

Warm running

Finally got the 77 out for a shake-down this morning to go to the grocery store. It seems to like to run between the 3/4 mark and the red mark. I have a fresh single pole sensor in it, not the one from the 89 donor. I ran the heat to keep it from getting hotter, lots of warm air. I believe I even re...

Red Line MTL might just mean the end of your gear clusters. I do not recommend it for reasons told to me years back by Steve Dinan. Some of us have good luck with it, for a while. It all has to do with maintaining the shear angle on your gears. You change the fluid from hypoid dope and suddenly you ...

Ignition

There is a completely new electronic distributor the early Mercedes SL crowd turned me on to. It solves a ton of problems. http://www.123ignition.nl/buy.php

I still like Pertronix

First replace every fuel and vacuum hose on the car, you may not have residual pressure in the lines from a bad pressure regulator and or check valve. New fuel filter. New vapor lines help prevent the trunk smell.
