Re: M535i oil cooler questions

1. I know the filter head contains a thermostat element. It seems like a good thing to renew now, but I'm not sure that it actually has its own part number? 2. A bit of residual white/red paint helps me match cooler ports with line [..] passages; haven't gone there yet. Hi Robert, I've a M535i E12 ...

Welcome to the forum here Doug. What kind of electrical issues do you have? And do you have the RHD version (because you are referring to UK and SA)? The wiring loom is - as far as I know - not M535i E12 specific and should be exactly the same as other big 6 cylinders E12's (528i). Although there mi...

If you find one, make sure to check which type of paint they use. The non-waterbased type (old style) of paint is better quality than a modern waterbased kind. Waterbased paint is used on most modern cars due to the smaller impact on the environment. Therefore, here in Holland I think only some pain...

Thanks Mike. It was a lot of fiddling with removing and remounting the hood/bonnet, but the solution was to turn the plates (item 2 and 1 in my example) at the tube (item 4) and also the torsion springs. After a couple of tries, it now looks like it has enough preload (to keep the hood in the air at...

Thanks Lenny. I agree that lubrication of the hood related parts is certainly important. However, all those parts are new and move without too much effort if you move them by hand. In this case it's rather that these two springs don't seem to 'push up' the hood (on release) with enough force... so t...

I don't have an example here currently, but yes If I recall correctly there should be a plate (which holds two rubber boots) screwed onto the brakebooster studs. The rubber is for guiding the two rubber fuel lines.

[Bodywork] issue with mounting the hood / bonnet

Ok, so I'm trying to install two new torsion springs (see link 1, items #6 and #7) which go inside the tube (item #4) at the front of the hood. This goes without any serious hassle. However, when I pull the release cable and the hood is released, I find that the force by which it opens ('pops') is n...

Peter, thanks for your reply and offer. You're right. Using the right bolt this time for the bracket :-) and with some copper wire to do a bit of trial and error (to correctly bend the hard line), it turned out to be very straight forward: the pressure hose should indeed be attached to the master cy...

Routing of the clutch hydraulic system

I'm trying to reassemble the clutch hydraulic system. Unfortunately, the original parts (hose, lines etc.) were lost. So no examples available :(. I took some pictures of the current situation this evening (apologies for the quality). Is there someone who can help me out on determining the correct r...

@wKohler: did your 16" Alpina wheels (last picture) also require fender rolling? If so, do you think 15" Alpina's would fit without any modifications?

And how would these wheels combine with lowering springs (e.g. H&R, 40mm) ?

Thanks.

I DID IT!! You're right Eddie, the rear quarter windows have to be removed. Once you do that, it takes a bit of trial and error, but it is actually pretty straightforward :). Thanks again for your support!

I will try to see if I can make a write-up of the procedure I followed.

Please bear with me. I'm trying to recall what I did 12 years ago. I think I slid the rear window glass onto the door first before I added the rear quarter glass. Have you tried that already? :D, thanks for your reply Eddie. Nope. I considered it, but reckoned it may be difficult with the do...

How to install the door windows

I want to install the rear door windows (electric window system), but struggling to find the right procedure. I have tried to put the window in under different angles. Also made an attempt by loosing the alu/chrome window guide, but that doesn't seem to really work. Is quite a long time ago since di...

Yep, I agree with the posts above. Most premium brand batteries would suit your purposes fine. I have good experiences with Optima batteries (http://www.optimabatteries.com/home.php). These batteries are spill-proof (which is good), very durable, and have good cold-starting characteristics (which ca...
