I was just searching around the same topic and found this post on the FCP blog very informative:

I’ve been running Zerex G-05 (HOAT) in my 944 and plan to do the same in the Bimmer.

L-jet fuel rail / injector rebuild questions
Hi folks, I'm not on the forum often, but always find it valuable when I am, and enjoying hearing about others' e12s. I'm currently in process on a top end rebuild of my 1980 528i. A blown head gasket lead me to replace the original head with one rebuilt from a 635CSi [later model casting]. Of cours...

Re: Exhaust: 633CSi v 528i
Hmm. Okay. I was kinda hoping I’d found another interesting anomaly. I’ll check for cracks, but will likely stay the course. If I don't spend all my budget on the engine, there’s certainly more I can fix!

Exhaust: 633CSi v 528i
Next question unraveling the mystery of my e12: Which exhaust system performs better? 633CSi [6-into-1] or 528i/535i [3-into-1, x2]? It turns out I have the 633 version (?): 6-into-1 manifold, single 2" pipe back to the Cat, which has 2 outlets, thru a resonator, the muffler & out thru dual...

Re: cylinder head swap
OK so I was curious about those pistons and asked my BMW guru buddy and he said all b28s had those pistons so its nothing special. Sorry I got over excited. Another guy I know found a 528i in a yard a while back with the head off and asked me the same thing. I'll be doing the same thing later on my...

Re: cylinder head swap
maybeillbuyit - um, I dunno. This is my first BMW [car], so I still have a lot to learn.. Are piano tops only euro / high-compression? I know it's not the original engine, but haven't dug in deeper that that yet.

cylinder head swap
Hello. I'm new to the forum, but have had my 1980 528i for a few years now, and spent a lot of time revisiting the FAQ section. i was my daily driver, until it blew a head gasket. Now I'm currently in the middle of a head swap, from the early casting [1 250 019] to a later casting, from a '86 635CSi...
