Re: alternator bushing

I've always cut my AC belts off cause they're always old and my AC didn't work! But, once I got the AC going again, putting a new belt on that sucker was freaking difficult! Yeah, I agree, poor design. I ended up putting a 12/1981 e24 633csi oil filter, accesory bracket, and 90A alternator on my 76 ...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal

Its too bad I'm just seeing this thread now! But I did the 3 speed auto swap to a 5 speed over last Christmas. I too was surprised to see the different early crank with a 21mm hole. I was bitter-sweet when I saw it cause I didn't have to remove a pilot bearing but I had already bought the sealed 32x...

Re: Engine block paint / coating recommendations?

On my 74 2002 I just brush painted the block with a can of normal black rustoleum non-latex paint. Something that said it was good with metal. 5 years later and the block still looks great!

Re: Zinc Foil 41331885099

Thats interesting, I'm not sure exactly but I feel like it would have to do with corrosion prevention (so you can get your nuts off and the sheet metal wont rust)? Or perhaps it spreads the load the clamping force the nut and bolt are exerting on the body's sheet metal?

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Sweet write up! Looking forward to seeing more! I'm currently doing a 5 speed swap on my 76 530i so I'm sure I can learn a thing or two from you. Also I really wish the bolts on top of my brake booster support hadn't rusted and snapped off. Now I have that relay bracket and all the relays just zip-t...

Re: Sticky front right brake

Well, if your lines are old I would definitely recommend replacing them and you might as well pull your calipers off to give the pistons a through check. Maybe use compressed air with something in between the pistons to force the pistons out and ensure they are all moving smoothly and equally. Also ...

Re: Speedo & Odometer Just Quit Working

Well your speedometer is driven by a series of cables (in-line) that come out the back of your speedometer, go through the firewall, and travel around to the back of your transmission. Inside the transmission the cable attaches to a gear which drives it. I would start by checking the entirety of the...
