@alottawatts I noticed your pictures of BMW motorcycles. There were some vintage BMW bikes at the Coast Motor Werk event that I was at over the weekend. There was even a BMW bike with a side car. The owner was giving the kids at the event rides and popped up the side car when he turned hard for the...

planning to build a better guibo/flexible disc coupling

I was at a motorcycle meet last night and I was admiring one of the member's frame sliders for this Triumph Daytona 675 on how quality and clean looking the design was. What surprised me was that he designed and CNC machined it all himself. We talked about the different uses of Delrin, which is a re...

Sorry for the re-post; a coupla guys on this website plus my German car mechanic told me to never, ever use any platinum plugs. Go old school & use Bosch WR9DS, I think. (double check the numbers) The 's' stands for silber, whatever that means. The silbers are suppose to last longer. Told ya I ...

Losing 2 qts of oil during a 6-7 hr drive is pretty extreme. I think you probably have some oil leaks somewhere. Have you gotten a chance to look underneath your car. I have some oil leaks near the oil pan gasket which I plan on fixing whenever I have a chance. On my old Nissan Altima which has a lo...

The old wires looked corroded and burnt out. Even when we stripped the wiring back a little bit. I was stuck at work on Friday and I was twisting the wiring around from the starter to the battery and I was able to get the car to start so I could go back home, so I knew you guys were right from your ...

Re: Anti-corrosion washer ?

One battery is fine, the other is a constant Chia Pet fuzzy farm on the negative cable. Have to clean it every two months. What's an Anti-corrosion washer ? A felt thingy ? What keeps making corrosion snow on one battery, not the other ? An anti-corrosion washer is a little treated felt ring to pre...

Thanks a lot Brian. I'll definitely try that once I get home. I've been meaning to bring my E12 to my friend's audio shop and have all of the power wiring upgraded, techflexed and shrink wrapped as I do with my other car I use for car audio competitions, but I haven't had the time.

Problems with starter (this is the 3rd one I've been thru)

Sun: I went down to Irvine on Sunday to go watch the Super Bowl and after the game my buddy wanted to try out my car, so I went and tried to start up the car and it just clicked and nothing happened. I thought maybe I might have left the lights on, but all the lights were very bright and the batter...

If at all reusable, keep the clamp from the new guibo. I've not seen one. All I know is replacing a clutch or anything requiring removing, installing a still serviceable guibo is a bear. The drat things expand just enough to invite skinning bolt threads, frustration fights with hammers and levers. ...

Re: Where does your exhaust pipe end?

The tailpipe is known to introduce a distinct hum or noise if the exhaust pipe stops short of the back of the bumper. For proper sound/exhaust exit, the tailpipe should extend 2-3 inches PAST the back of the bumper. Stopping under the car or bumper will create noise IN the car. This is particularly...

Looks like AutohausAZ does ship internationally. My best bet would probably be to go thru them. I got my guibo for my local parts place for $24. I've been getting all my parts from them since they have the lowest prices and I don't have to pay for S&H or wait around 1-2 weeks for the parts to co...

HOLY CRAP! The steel in the yoke shouldn't have deformed like that. That looks like the "uroparts" center support bearing. yea, it was elongated in an oval shape. It must have been front the guibo being all worn out causing the driveshaft to bounce all over the place. What's "uropart...

e39 wheels have a larger hub bore and don't center properly on an e12 without hub-centering rings. Put the stock wheels back on and see if that, plus the guibo, doesn't fix it. I've also heard the exact thing that you said about E39 wheels from Pierre. Update: I had some spare time today and with t...
