just guessing here, and mentioning it because i didn't see it considered yet:

any chance it could be related to O2 sensor, which is relevant only after warm-up?

Do you mean the aux fan that sits in front of the radiator?

If so, I have a good spare one.

Are you talking about the fasteners with the allen head caps?

If so, using a precisely sized (confidence in quality German made) bit, with some inward pressure and care should help. But if they're really rusted in there, it just may not be possible to get them all out in perfect shape. Then you can ...

This could be a lot of things but I would want to rule out distributor and electronic ignition box on the right inner fender. If you've got a spare of either to swap in and test for diagnosis, do it.

I had a 318i with L-Jet once and experienced this kind of phenomenon twice--once it was the ...

Yeah, if it's out put fresh bearings in, good idea.

Just spin the 36mm(?) nut off, knock the bearings out, tap in new, the end.

Where to buy? The usual suspects. I'd be amazed if Mesa Performance couldn't get you some, for example.

I've done this a couple of times and it's not so bad, really. Having an impact wrench for the 36mm nut helps. Other than that, straightforward, no special tools really necessary.

Take heart.

The only actual adjustment on these cars is toe in front. Trailing arm and even subframe bushings can have an effect on your alignment as can other things like perhaps a bent trailing arm. How much are you off in the rear?

Well, technically, but replacing a rear bushing that is now made of dust ...

Sounds very much like a bad fan clutch. How are you sure that yours is good?

When the car is warm and running, try to stop the fan with a rolled up newspaper. If you can stop it and hold it in place with the newspaper, your clutch isn't working properly. If you can't, it is.

Alignment's got nothing to do with it if it tracks well when in motion.

It could be bad shocks or bushings in the front suspension. Or it could be a stuck caliper piston. Only poking around will tell.

not sure, technically, but I always remove the steering wheel because it's just no big deal. Put it at 12:00, remove it, then put it back the same way. Then you've got plenty of room to work.

Yes,that's the light.

You can ground your alternator from anywhere on the cover really. Whatever's convenient.
