One less E12

If the car has already gone to the boneyard could you let us know which one? I need the lower panel below the steering wheel...

I don't like KYB shocks at all. To me it makes the car feel jittery. Bilstein HDs are far superior.

My memory is foggy, but I'm not sure the coarse spline E28 wheels work. I want to say the tab which cancels the turn signal is not long enough. I believe E12, E21 and E23s are interchangeable.

I think your swap would be intriguing. I disagree somewhat with the fact that the weight doesn't make a difference. It may only be only 100 lbs or so, but it is all over the front wheels and I believe you will feel in in the handling (you may have to adjust the front springs, it may sit too high ...

My experience with center bearings is when they wear there is a vibration (or a knocking against the driveshaft tunnel with severe wear) upon takeoff from a stop. That is when the most torque is applied on the shaft, causing it to bend slightly. The vibration goes away after a second or two when the ...

I think the question has to be asked...what are your goals?

Personally, for street use I would think 440 is a bit stiff in front and may require custom valved struts to control them. I would tend to stay in the 350 range. I do recall being in an E28 with 400 lb springs and the car felt very solid ...

You're going to have to do something about your studs.

I assume you mean their length? (there's the noob shining through!)

We have an industrial and truck supply shop in town that seems to have every element and increment of bolt, nut, and stud. I imagine I can show up there with my present ...

The stock offset is 22mm. I'm not a fan of having the offset closer (numerically higher) to the strut than stock on the front wheels.

Your picture indicates the wheel is very close to the strut. There is a touch of flexing going on along with variances in tire construction, so there's a good chance ...

Then try checking your sway bar mounts and strut mounts, as well as your bushing mounts.

Does it make the noise only under acceleration? Try going in a straight line and accelerating hard from a start and see if it also makes the noise. If so, that should be the CSB.

Here is a link to some dyno sheets from the E28 board. Most are turbos (which like slightly richer mixtures) but there are a few normally aspirated with air/fuel graphs.

Does your chart say the air/fuel ratio is 14.17 @ 4300 rpms? If so that seems really lean to me, I would think you should be 13 or less under full throttle.

I have trouble with heat...when the intake air temperature approaches 120 degrees, I have detonation problems then.

I do plan to do that but I prefer the analog clock and the fan switch moves very freely. So if that works I can take my time refurbishing the one that's in the car now.
