Re: Fuel pump hot wire

Thanks for the reply Mike, yes I thought about it a bit and got things sorted properly. The new Bosch pump is way noisier than the old one which I could barely hear, I think it was original.

Fuel pump hot wire

Hi all, it seems my fuel pump hot wire (grn /vio) is shorted to ground somewhere between the combo relay and the fuel pumps. With combo relay Unplugged and fuel pump disconnected, probing wire side of connectors at c/r end and both pumps shows continuity to chassis. Has anyone experienced this and ca...

Re: 1980 528i “Lucky Find” Project

Orient the wires on the distributor so the go left in the photo, rearward in real life. I think only one of mine goes straight down from the dist. That’ll make room for snorkel to attach and drop the air box. Good luck finding an icm. I have my old one, if you want to borrow, replaced cause it would...

Re: Decreasing Fuel pressure/stall

I know its been a while.... but i'd start by Checking the fuel flow at the rail by disconnecting the 7th injector hose and getting a clear plastic container to contain fuel. Measure the flow at idle and under throttle.
I had an issue similar that turned out to be a loose wire at the fuel pump.

Re: starts - won't run unless key held

Your photo doesn't appear. Sounds like fuel pump is not getting power in run mode. Maybe this is what you're looking for: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=3997-USA---E12-BMW-528i&diagId=32_0499 When I had a similar problem I replaced the wire harness, #2 in diagram, did not solve pr...

Spark plug boots

Hi all, I have the black spark plug boots, not sure about the origin, they click on the plug end but still seem a bit wiggly, floppy. I'm replacing my wires and wondering if i should get the whole works, with ends (the red ones are OEM, correct), or just wire and re-use the ends? Also just purchased...

When the engine is cold, pop the hood and start. The leak location should be obvious. My cold start valve was leaking where the plastic and metal parts are joined. A generous dollop of 5 minute epoxy solved the problem. Note that I am a total cheapskate and a new valve is a far better and safer solu...

The return side is non pressurized; just acts as an open drain line from FPR to tank. Sounds like the check valve in your pump is not functioning. Maybe that's also related to your pressure previously being below spec. Try tapping on the pump while off and then while running. That miraculously cured...

Pressure should stay up. 32 psi is low, should be about 44 psi iirc. Did the new regulator fix that? Where are you measuring pressure? Are you sure gauge is accurate? Clamping technique might be less secure than u think. You didn't give result of clamping supply side in your post. Have you checked A...

Pressure:3bar or 43 psi Make sure the gauge is rated for gas With key on, engine off, pump should Turn on and supply full pressure. With key off, wait an hour or more annd recheck pressure; should hold. If not, you have a leak in lines or in pressure regulator. Check for wet spots, most likely at co...

Ditto what Mike wrote. Get a pressure gage at the hardware store along with a 5/16 barbed adapter. Take the line off the cold start valve and plug it in there temporarily. Make sure to use a hose clamp.Crank the engine and watch the gauge. Careful when you detach the line because fuel will probably ...

Ditto what Mike wrote. Check the rubber bits which are probably dry, hard, and shrunken or worn, and bearings i.e. control arm ends. I'm quite satisfied with the Turner urethane end links I installed and one of my control arm bearings was beyond crusty.
