Re: multi-layered sheet metal

I think you will see what I mean once you have exposed / removed all rusty metal. The sound deadener in the last picture is exactly on the edge of your " layer #2 " The round part on top of that is #3. The rotten floorpanel is ( I think , but I might be wrong ) stretching beyond #2 underne...

Re: multi-layered sheet metal

The lincoln is a nice investment. Are you going to use gas or flux core wire? ( I would definately use gas...) Just get a bunch of 19ga sheet and go practice practice practice. Different angles ,gaps and welder adjustments etc. The repair on your floor will not go with no sparks inside... go get som...

Re: multi-layered sheet metal

Ok, I dropped the carrier and here`s what I think is going on; - Layer # 1 in your pics is the floorpan. When wire brushing you will find a foam gasket between the floorpan and the guide bushing for the threaded rod. That said, the floorpan does not add any structural strength to the mounting point....

Re: multi-layered sheet metal

Will do. Plan is somewhere next week but in reality, my plans don`t always work... My main concern would be keeping that rod in position. It all depends on what quality level of repair you`re after. If you want to patch the pitted panel, the whole bunch needs to come out, probably including t...

Re: multi-layered sheet metal

I`m a couple days away from dropping my rear subframe, so I will have a closer look at the construction of that area. From what I could see on mine after clearing some ubc I could reach, there is no 3rd layer. Mine is a `76 series 1 528, so there might have been an upgrade in that section..? Or mayb...

Re: Water control valve replacement - HVAC removal?

ok, thanks.
I `ve had one fail in a hurry while doing 80mph... That indoor coolant and outdoor winter weather resulted in zero visibility within a second. That was kinda scary to say the least.

Re: Water control valve replacement - HVAC removal?

just wondering... where did you find a valve..? My non air 76 is mostly in pieces but the dash and heater are still in. I have no leaks but I thought about replacing the valve and core now... I have not seached very hard yet but it seemed the valve it no longer produced.

Re: replacing hard fuel lines

In the front ,the lines are just clamped to the side of the framerail right below where they go through the inner fender. I think you will find biggest challenge where they pass the rear subframe / diff. My 528 is all in pieces , but don`t know how I would fix that without dropping the frame...

Re: Power steering pump - again.

That could cause pulling the pump out of alignment. Becomes a problem when it throws the belt and you suddenly have to corner with no ps.

Re: Starter Bosch sr441x

I was thinking the same... bad starter or missing teeth on the flywheel? Try pushing the car forward in gear so the position of the flywheel changes. Easy check to be sure the flywheel is ok.

Re: max 14" tire size?

I will stick to the 205/70. Still lots of decent tires to chose from overhere. I looked into the 225/60 but that a smaller diameter so no go. Also, it looks like there`s only 2 brands to choose from. I had the Alpina`s checked for straightness yesterday and 1 seemed ok-ish, so that`s good  Th...

max 14" tire size?

hey everyone, Newbee here from europe. I`m currently restoring my `76 528. I purchased a set of 7j x 14" Alpina alloys. Ride height will be factory and I like the fenders filled. The factory size tire would have been 195/70 and 205/70 will work just fine but what would be the max size to run wi...
