This is one of the reasons I adapted an AC Delco CS130 into my car. It's mounted metal to metal and doesn't get squishy. It also is grounded by the same metal to metal contact. Plus it puts out 105 amps.

Re: valve clearance - Video
I'm wondering if it would perhaps, be more exacting, to set tappet clearance with the camshaft sideways, beginning its contact with the tappet surface. What I mean is, when the gentleman explains the gradual eccentricity slope is intended to "gently" engage with, and then press down the t...

Re: Want to buy - for an earlier engine
Go to e9coupe.com and ask there. We have lots of parts like this for sale. I have a few sets of manifolds and carburetors and a box of distributors in my garage.

Re: Engine Ground - 1974 530i
If your only ground to the frame/sheet metal is to the hood, that's not good. Get a ground strap and attach it between the block and the frame. Too many grounds isn't a thing.

Re: e12 temperature question
The fact that the engine temperature goes up when you're working it harder is not unusual. On my E3 the temperature will vary by 25°F depending on the outside temperature and the power level of the engine. It has been like this through 3 engines in 14 years.

Re: ballast resistor with conventional ignition
The polarity will have nothing to do with the primary current, the AC and DC resistance is the same regardless of which terminal is positive and which is negative. Improper polarity will affect the secondary and the ability to generate a hot spark. http://www.mossmotoring.com/coil-polarity/ The wire...

Re: CFM of radiator fan?
very interesting the electric fan modification... if you can post some pictures of your auxiliary fan, did you guys use a reversible fan and mounted it in the back of radiator? The BMW 64541392913 2-speed auxiliary fan is built as a pusher and is mounted in front of the radiator in its stock config...

Re: CFM of radiator fan?
I deleted my mechanical fan many years ago on my E3. I use the 64541392913 2-speed auxiliary fan from E32's or E34's as a pusher fan. I use a Volvo 2-speed fan control relay triggered by a BMW 90°/99°dual thermoswitch. As long as the car is moving 35 mph or so the fan never comes on. If I'm stuck at...

Re: We did it: E28 subframe swap...
We are in search of an early E28 cover that will bolt up directly. Bill PM me with your address and I'll hook you up with one. I have a few in my collection. I used straight pieces of the steel tubing from the transmission cooling lines from an automatic BMW ( maybe an E34 )for my sheath extenders ...

Re: E12 Project help needed - e28 rear end swap
I stayed with the E3 rear sway bar for two reasons.
1. It is an aftermarket ST version.
2. I didn't feature removing all the stuff and insulation from the inside of the trunk to weld some brackets on and not burn the car down. It was much easier to do it out on the floor on the trailing arms.

Re: E12 Project help needed - e28 rear end swap
I put an E28 rear axle in my E3, and the problems you might incur should be common. 1. As mentioned earlier, you will need the differential cover from an early E28 with the centered mount. It will bolt right on to the stock mounting point. Otherwise you will be fabricating an adapter. 2. You will ne...
