Yeah, I’m kind of late in replying, but there is another, rather simple reason for engine stall.
Troubleshooting for a friend decades ago, he had a tuneup which included replacing the distributor. The car ran great until it sat in traffic with the engine warm. It would just stall. Had to wait 10 ...

Re: Reviving 528i - No Start - Advice Needed
Reading through Josh’s E12 Revival and wonderful support herein, is a reminder that unintended neglect can disable an otherwise highly reliable machine.

Re: limited slip differential oil
When I acquired my latest E12, the PO said he had the whole car serviced a year before. That included the rear differential. Unfortunately the rear started to make growling noises since then. It was fine for the first 20-30 minutes before a the ghosts started moaning. He didn’t know what fluid was ...

Re: Valve Train Tick
If it were ME, . . .
I’d pop the cover off again and recheck the clearances. I was taught to check the valves in firing order sequence, starting with cylinder 1 at TDC. Remove all spark plugs. Cool that your car is manual transmission, have it in top gear (4th, 5th). It gives you mechanical ...

Re: Unobtainium heater water valve and scary o-rings
Only a minor contribution to the discussion; orings need to be lubricated before installation, a minor scuff can easily lead to annoying leakage.
Make sure the lubricant is fully SYNTHETIC. Like bases are solvents for each other, so don’t use any petroleum grease or WD-40 stuff. Even if the oring ...

Re: OK to use synthetic oil in trans and diff?
Regarding DIFFERENTIAL fluid.
I know this reply is LATE, but worth mentioning. Previous owner had a shop change his differential fluid with generic 75w90. That was a mistake, because the diff would then GROWL after 15-30 minutes of driving.
The remedy is to use HYPOID gear oil. I used Liqui Moly ...
