SPAX springs group buy, but must act quickly
With a claimed 40mm drop from stock ride height, the SPAX springs might be fairly aggressive, but the lack of aftermarket springs for the e12 leaves few options. These SPAX springs, if you get in on the deal, can be had in December. Suspension Techniques are, at this time, not being made nor availab...

I think that since stewart has an M90 3.5 liter motor, he might be wondering not about just changing the log-style runners, but changing to the later m30b34/35 style manifold. I'm not sure if this is a consideration, but I can tell you for sure, Stewart, that it makes accessing the cold start inject...

The next big question is use factory spec bolts or go to grade 8. The person who built this motor thinks that grade 8 is called for since he snapped 3 bolts putting the pump in and taking it out [ never mentioned the one he snapped putting it in ] Thanks for all the replied Harder/stronger than sto...

Reviving and old post.... Brian - what is the negative effect of the common speaker ground you mention? Is that what causes speaker crackle? I just changed out my factory unit for a new aftermarket one, and get a crackle when the volume is more than approx. 1/2. If it's not the speaker gnd, do you ...

Re: how best to install water pump and T-stat
I had someone build up a motor from a '71 Bavaria block and '81 528i head. The new water pump is leaking, he didn't use a gasket when he assembled it. My question: putting this back together should I use a gasket and some liquid gasket just liquid gasket or just paper gasket? I also hope that putti...

I'd spend it
If you put it in with lots of anti-sieze, just barely tight enough, 100 miles ago, it might come out with an open end. Recently on my 535i, I broke a made-for-the-job socket sourced locally (<$20), then the socket in the free loaner kit they offer (their suggestion), before finally bringing the car ...

a crazy coincidence to check
This one bothers me, which says more about me than the bother. I noticed my fuel pump occasionally sounding louder. It was louder than the pump in my e28, so I figured that either the pump must be different, or my e12 pump was failing or strained. The pumps seem to be the same stuff, no clues there,...

Thanks all for the replies. I'll have to leave the fuel pressure gauge attached and see how long it takes to bleed pressure on the system. Maybe the engineers at Bosch figured that owners needed a way to diagnose leaky injectors without a gauge, so they deleted the pre-start fuel line repressurizati...

Fuel pressure before startup...
In my Volvo 145 with D-Jetronic fuel injection, when the key first reaches the on position during startup, the fuel pump is aumatically switched on for about 1 sec. to build fuel pressure. The result is starts as quick as you could expect. In my e12, I sometimes have to turn the key to start for a s...

Re: Timing, idle switch, stuck throttle updates
Turned out the throttle sticking was caused by my choice of where to locate the screw on the hose clamp for the AFM rubber tube to the air cleaner. Right side, screw facing up put it right where the throttle side plate could catch on it and hang up. Oh man, I wish that I could say that I didn't kno...

Re: Baffled Again with Driveability Problems
I never have made the 528i run correctly since the transmission and engine swap. So last nite I swapped out the distributor, re-timed the car and it ran great. I couldn't believe the difference. (snipped) If anyone has any other ideas... Brad, I'm not sure what this conclusion would mean, and certa...
