Steering play - Pitman arm or center tie-rod?

Hi all, It's been about 5 years since i've visited - I have just dusted off the E12! Hope everyone is well. I have isolated a small amount of play in the steering where the center tie rod meets the Pitman arm http://ills.bmwfans.info/2xj.png I assume that it's more likely that the center tie rod wou...

Cheers! Yeah that's what I was looking for. I also found this thread that explains the differences in the block castings:

E34 M30B35 into E12

Hi all, My searching has proven fruitless so I'll ask here - I have found a low mileage E34 535i at a good price, I'm considering buying it and mating the M30 to the existing 5 speed drivetrain in my E12. I have read that the engine mount bolt holes won't line up - is this correct? If so what's the ...

LHD or RHD? I replaced the check valve between the manifold/boosters on my RHD E12 and it helped enormously.

The 5-speed was in a donor E12 I bought, it's an OD box. I've got it mated to a 3.07 LSD and it's a dream. You're welcome to the 4-speed, got any freight contacts? Closest commercial depot to me is Mitchell ACT 2911. Also got other bits I can chuck in, PM me if you like. I'm moving house and want to...

Gary, I have a 4 speed sitting here (ACT) minus bellhousing. was in good working order before I upgraded to a 5-speed. You can have it if you cover freight, if you want it for spares. Ben

Speedometer not working

Hi all, It has been a while but the old girl is still ticking along. I recently diagnosed a snapped speedo cable (it was indeed snapped) and ordered a brand new one from BMW. I have disconnected the short section between the cluster and main cable, driving with the dash vent removed i can see that t...

When I had a slow leak at the master, the level in the reservoir would drop below the min level and the light would come on (flickering at first). I don't have pad sensors so can't comment on that :)

I have 16x8 ET0 and i'm running 205/45's. I rolled all guards, the fronts are only really necessary if you're running 2-3"+ lower than stock (as wkohler said, full lock will get you). The rolling diameter is reduced however, so the speedo is out. I'm not sure what i'll go for next time - possib...

I admire your patience - i usually find out the hard way whether brute force is the answer (i'm getting better with experience).

Any chance you can document the process of overhauling the shafts?

I'm going to mention injectors again - only because the old 520i I had presented the same symptoms, the PO mentioned that he had to remove/clean the injectors in the past to remedy the same issue. Sure enough once I got the injectors out, one of them was quite blocked.

Sounds like clogged fuel filter or injectors - both symptoms of dirty fuel. Definitely replace the fuel filter and put some better fuel in before changing the pump.
