Re: Sideloader is a 188mm?
Sounds interesting... but I have a number of open diffs. The lsd ate harder to find, though I do have one that whines and seems like it would be a candidate for rebuild somehow.

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
Thank Bert.
I know a used one resolved my running issue. Is there any way to test the pulse generator to know if it is operational or faulty?

Re: L jet info - running rich
Good detail here. Today I plugged in my spare exu into rich running m90. This car had black smoke out the tailpipe at idle. Spark is controlled by the distributor and ignition control unit where fuel is vis the pump and ecu. pressure is good and 2.5bar and the u jectors are new aftermarket units. Wi...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
It seems the problem was a bad pulse generator/distributor. compounding the problem was the replacement ICM box seemed to stop working. I thought I replaced it last year and it worked, but it is possible I am misremembering.

Re: Early E24 part interchange
Sure thing! At the time I was too cheap to buy a new one when the junkyard one was uncracked and almost translucent still.
Lock is exactly right as this operation is opposite of the E23/E24/E28/E30 operation. They must have realized that a warning light is more intuitive than a light being unlit.

Re: Early E24 part interchange
Yes, Robert this is true. I had found one at the junkyard from E12 and turned out it did not have the fluid level sensor, but otherwise was the same. If I recall, I am still using that reservoir and just tucked the fluid level wire out of view in my '80 635 (type code 5331 in Real OEM).

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
The other week I was able to try out the car after suspecting the impulse sender being the problem. I thought my spare distributor was bad but it turns out that the replacement ignition control module was causing my issues. With the original ICU box in place, original ECU, original coil, the car wa...

Re: Motronic 1.3 conversion
Great work on this.
I also cut the AC bracket when I fit M1.3 onto the '81 635 I had.

Re: Motronic 1.3 conversion
I did the conversion as well on an '81 Motronic 635CSi. It seems to be much more reliable and I already had the correct intake manifold. I do suspect the log manifold was better breathing at high RPM, however. Not especially difficult as my car already had the correct cam drive for later parts-- do ...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
Still having problems with this, even with a new ECU.
I suspect I am having issues with the Pulse Generator inside the distributor if my new rotor doesn't make a difference...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
Thanks Franky! http://drive4corners.com/wp-content/usergallery/hashtag/sized635.jpg I have tried a few more things and found the problem to persist with a new ICU, new fuel pump, multiple combo relays, a new Coil and spare CTS. Starting to suspect solder joints in the ECU as the root cause to my pro...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
With warmer temps, everything seems to be normal as far as oiling is concerned. However, the main item I wanted to test was the ICU overheated or something to do with overheating of the distributor as described to me by guru Dave Stackhouse. I had the car idling and got it warmed up before shutting ...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
The most recent strange behavior is that when I start the car the last couple of times, the oil filter cannister blows out the oring seal and leaks oil rather than pumping it through the system. Strange problem, so I haven't had it running long enough to try and diagnose the spark issue I had. It ha...
