I figured it out!! It was the AFM- i adjusted the metal clip by bending it a drop and no more issue for last two weeks!

My car seems to be running rich now, but no more random stumbles!!

^_^

Love when things get figured out!!

I have the same issue. Sucks because area around my taillight is rusting.
I tried epoxying in some plastic screws but you cant get em tight enough to seal out water

That makes sense, if its "sticky" that might cause intermittent issues.

So far this weekend its driving fine.. i have a spare distributor too, so I can swap if it acts up again.

Thanks!

It is my only car!

What causes this to light up?

Its always a little lit in my car, sometimes brighter than others

So I checked all my plugs, connectors, etc, all the wires going into the plugs- All is well. I also tested my advance and retard using the retard hose- Both work but I didnt connect the retard. Maybe unplugging/plugging things worked, or maybe my car is just in a good mood, but no bucking or stumbli...

Thanks for that! Im gonna check all my "plugs" (not spark plugs) And if I cant fix it I will start messing with the distributor. Also, The distributor I got had a rubber cap over the retard port... I think there were a couple different distributors for the 528i ... Im going to take a look ...

Fuel pressure guage inline w cold start injector tells me I have pressure, But it does feel like fuel delivery cuts out on accelleration... I also do have retard disconnected on my distributor because timed to spec (or slightly advanced) w retard connected I idle at TDC which makes my car run too wa...

Off idle accelleration stumble

My car has been running pretty well lately, But Ive been having an intermittent "stumble" on accelleration. The car idles perfect and for the most part drives okay, and it seems to happen a little less when its warmed up but Im not positive- it could be in my head. I changed the combo rela...

I changed the starter, that was the problem!

FYI the job wasnt that hard, BUT at least one of the two bolts holding the starter is a real pain to remove- I needed to use an open ended wrench little by little. A SLIM ratcheting wrench would have done the job, but the one I had was not slim enough.

starting problem: starter or relay ?

Out of nowhere, after a trip, my car just wouldn't start. I tapped on the starter while my dad was turning it over, and it started. The next day, the engine began to turn over- but then cut out, same thing, it wouldn't start. There is a noise coming from the starter when I try to start it- It doesn'...

i had the issue with the coolant bubbling over.....

after going crazy and even changing a head gasket:

It was the radiator cap! Did not hold pressure causing coolant to boil over.

Im not sure, but I suspect that the connection from the distributor (528i style) was a bit oily... I cleaned it up and havent had the issue since, but since problem was intermittent, Im not sure.

Thanks!
