Question about fixing door trim
The trim on the driver's side door is no longer held firmly by the trim clips. It will pop onto them, but after a few good closings of the door it works its way loose. It seems to me that it is either the clips or the trim piece. The clips do not look different/worn in an obvious way. I have not not...

I had a current draw in the car that the previous owner and several mechanics had not been able to sort out for more than 10 years. They had identified two fuses that needed to be removed and replaced to keep the battery from draining. It took me about a year. I noticed an intermittent switch in the...

That would work. Is your engine comparable to the m30b28 engine from 1981. If so, What total timing do you run? and how does it compare with the settings recommended for the timing at 2200 with the dot (or 1700 with the dot)? I apologize for the naïve question. I am new to BMWs and learning as I go.

Thank you for the response. I now believe I have the timing set correctly, but I would like to verify this because I have typically set timing on older American cars where there is a tab with the degrees of advance marked. I have drawn a sketch of what I see through the timing window as the engine r...

Timing and Octane Questions
I am relatively new to E12s and pretty naïve about them, but have a question I am hoping I can get help with. I have seen posts by some who have advanced timing by setting the 22 degrees at slightly lower RPM (1700). What I want to know from those who have advanced their timing this way, or some oth...

Thank you. T. Hanson, The manual opens to the table of contents and this is where I was stuck before. Can you point me to the number of the procedure (if that is what it is called? - something like 51 21 .....?) It may be that I just don't recognize what I am looking at? (I figured out from prior pr...

Advice on replacing window outer weatherstripping
Can someone point me to a resource (or directions) for replacing the outer weatherstrip on the front doors. (it could be in the repair manual or some other place). The weather strip on my car is completely dried up and cracked. I bought a replacement and want to replace it. Thank you in advance for ...

I pulled the switch yesterday and the battery did not drain overnight. I then pulled the switch apart, but couldn't figure out what could be wrong with it, so I reassembled and reconnected (to see if it still worked). It did, but I don't see the signs of the draining current on the fuse box. I will ...

The fuse in question is in the second row of fuses (starting at the front), it is the fourth one in (starting at the fender side). It is labelled: 16A Turn signal gauge, windshield wiper washer system, horn relay (headl cleaner system, el mirror) (the one next to it is labelled: Stop light (radio) T...

Thanks and apologies for not being clear. The potential (volt reading) grows when the fuse is removed. I am inferring that if the fuses were in place that a current would be running through them. I am puzzled by why the potential grows with time, rather than being a full 11 V (which is what it rises...
