Update: Following some tuning advice, I've seen surprising improvements on the hot running 3.7L engine just with timing adjustments: 1. I was running quite a bit of advance as legacy from my earlier engine. I'd pretty much had it that way since reading an old post years ago from Peter Florance on di...

Re: Lights around the HVAC controls don't illuminate

In looking at the parts schematic, there are a bunch of "prisma" - a different one for each of several words - "cold", "warm", "normal", etc. Most of them are no longer available. What are these - little lights, or just see through lenses? Thanks guys, Brian The prisma likely refers to clear plasti...

Wow. NLA....at least for now. I had my windshield replaced in 2005. That glass is Sekurit. I've had no issues with it. Furthermore, while at the local indep. BMW shop last week, I saw an E34 and its windshield was both Sekurit and had a Roundel on it. So, it seems Sekurit is or was an OEM supplier f...

Re: M535i oil cooler questions

Hi Robert, I've a M535i E12 with an oil cooler (should be the same as you're referring to). About point 1 (filter head contains a thermostat): thanks, this is good info. Are you entirely sure about that by the way? I thought so too, but couldn't tell for sure when examining the filter housing. 2: I...

The E24 cooler lines are different than the E12 ones. I have an E24 that still has this setup in tact and will trace the lines to see which ends up where. My M535i setup is still out of the car and I can show the difference in the lines too if that helps and also a photo of the bracket on the left ...

M535i oil cooler questions

I've acquired a used setup from a Euro E24 and am in the process of deciding what I will clean up and use and what I will buy new. A few questions after initial inspection: 1. I know the filter head contains a thermostat element. It seems like a good thing to renew now, but I'm not sure that it actu...

brake pressure regulator

Anyone had one of these fail? No issues noticed with braking performance, but I finally traced my mystery leak to this unit. I'm replacing this original part this weekend. It's not fun to access unless you already have the brake booster out (it's directly under it). Working from the bottom, you've b...

Re: Fuel Tank 77 530i

They're definitely not all interchangeable since the gas door was in the rear by the license plate before 77. However, still a good question on the two P/Ns you are considering. I've asked the same question, although I was considering if it was possible to add the later pre-pump into the 77 tank wh...

Re: Fuel Tank 77 530i

Hello again, Does anyone know if I all e12 fuel tanks are interchangeable, or mount the same way? 16 11 1 176 554 (63 LTR/w screw cap) is NLA. I believe the newer tanks hold 70 liters and use the newer style cap... Any suggestions as to what part number to order? Thank you. They're definitely not a...

Some more thoughts on this: 1. It will take some creativity and a little luck to accomplish this with all new parts. Even if my previous posts had more detail, it included some random NOS/NLA finds which you can't expect to duplicate. 2. Dug up recent project picture links including my front doors: ...

Can someone please clarify what are exactly the parts called brush (#7) and sealing lip type (#8 eight) I understood that the dew wipe was a single piece/strip behind the chrome strip on the outside as well as the inside. I also see the outer left and right weather-strips 51211808775/76 that are NL...

Re: Window dew wipers Inner/outer-Front rear...

Hello, Does anyone know the part numbers for inner and outer window seal/wipers that go inside and outside of all 4 doors on a 77 530? Thank you. While you've been pointed to the P/Ns, it's not going to help too much because you've just opened an NLA mine field. Many of those parts aren't available...

I use mostly Mobil 1 15w-50 full synthetic. Occasionally, I'll put a quart of synthetic 10w-60 in from other manufacturers, but it's crazy expensive.

I'd always likely to see higher idle oil pressure in my warm climate, so I'm always using the higher viscosity formulas.

Thanks, guys. Given my new engine is all nice and almost ready to go, I'm not going to do any drilling or tapping in the block. I'm either going to skip plumbing the TB or tee off that heater hose leaving the cylinder head. At least the tee off option is reversible with multiple hoses available. It ...

throttle body coolant chamber

Anybody got opinions on bypassing and how it affects driveability, idle, etc...? I'm building up a new engine based on the M30B34 block. I just noticed the coolant port isn't available to feed the throttle body w/o drilling and tapping the blind boss. As the 3.5L FAQ confirmed, the two main options ...
