Re: Intermittent no-start with 635 Motronic 1.0

Have you eliminated the injectors as a source of the problem? A spark tester will allow you to verify is spark is the problem or not.

Re: Valvar 30A Relays // 1 364 986

I found them in the Haynes US-spec 528 schematics labelled as "Stage I" and "Stage II" relays. They control the A/C compressor and the aux fan via the various temp switches.

Valvar 30A Relays // 1 364 986

I've tried to armchair sleuth this out, but I'm finding the answer elusive. I have two relays sitting side-by-side on top of my battery. They are these: https://i.ibb.co/Q8pyZ6p/relay.jpg 12V, 30A, Valvar type 230006, marked with part number 1 364 986. This is referenced on E28 boards as a "relief r...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Ditto to Robert's experience with glass-bead or vapor blasting. My log and thermostat housing are on their way to a shop now, after having the valve cover and runners vapor blasted last year. An alleged benefit is that many of the small surface irregularities of the sand castings are peened closed, ...

Electrolysis á la Keenh

So, this is not an informative post, but rather one expressing amazement and appreciation. I wish I had taken "before" pictures of these AC Condenser brackets. They were crusty with rust, one of the washers had rust-welded itself to the bracket -- they were utterly irredeemable and I was sizing up o...

Re: e12 temperature question

Any performance problems that you've noticed? It might be your gauge is bad, but if this were me I'd replace the thermostat next. Another cheap part and easier to do than opening the dash even though still a pain. Temp gauges don't fail that often, but it has been known to happen. If you didn't do a...

Re: e12 temperature question

My '81 sits more or less centered most of the time at operating temps, unless of course air gets into the system. Yours seems to me to be reading low. The question of course is whether the car is actually running too cold, or if your gauge isn't accurate. If it was very cold out the day you were dri...

Re: ballast resistor with conventional ignition

I'm not entirely convinced, because, the resistances here are illustrated in series. It should not matter for the primary circuit, therefore, about polarity. It's an on-off DC circuit with resistances in series. The resistance through the coil itself should be nearly identical between a no-internal-...

Glovebox Power Solution

I got this idea from another BMW site as a way to repurpose the glovebox flashlight power feed. While my flashlight works after soldering in a new battery, it doesn't compete with a cheap modern LED flashlight. The power feed to the flashlight does give the opportunity to power devices without needi...

Re: Red Line in gearbox and differential?

Same here, definitely noticed the difference with MTL in the gearbox and Redline gear oil in the diff. Shifts are smooth and accurate, and that's with some play in my neglected shifter. Some older posts of FF mention some leaks when changing over to MTL if you're using a thicker oil currently. Maybe...

Re: Has anyone ever installed a cruise control mod? If so, what model?

I'm not sure what to do about the stalk. Maybe this is a bit out there, but I posted yesterday on another thread about the E28 e-brake console. It has four cutouts for the window rocker switches. You could use the driver-side switches for the cruise. In fact, the stock momentary-contact window cont...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

We need to make sure this is archived. It's gold. And the speed with which you're accomplishing this with virtually zero drama is impressive. I can't wait to see the rebuild, which at this breakneck pace will be done by February. And if nobody else is marveling at the genius of a garage dishwasher, ...

in fact will have the same 3.0/3.3 stamped on the side of the block so if you installed it, it will look original at least.
You can see for yourself in Mike (keenh)'s teardown photos.

Re: Cylinder head

Yes, that's correct. They're really a reman operation, but they'll sell one-off retail to individuals. FYI, the fuel line sections they sell for the injector-to-rail connection (at a premium) are nothing special. Use genuine BMW fuel line and cut the sections yourself. Their components appear to be ...
