Front euro bumper conversion - before I start cutting...
Back is finished and just started on the front. From those with experience - does the part of the front frame rail that clamps the US bumper shock absorber need to be cut to clear the brackets? Also, there's a tab with a self threading nut on the euro bumper bracket but I don't see how it's used - i...

I like working on my cars, but I also like going to car events and not spending a week rebuilding one caliper. I have either sourced rebuilt or good used calipers to replace the old rusted-to-shit ones that I have run across. The only suggestions I have would be: 1) Leaving the caliper connected to...

upper timing case removal
Any pitfalls or unique processes to removing the upper timing case to reseal it? Looks pretty straightforward in the repair manual. The water pump and thermostat are already off, looks like remove the valve cover and distributor then the timing cover. I'm assuming the large nut on the face of the co...

Position transmitter diagnostic port needed?
Magnetic sensor at the crank damper that ends in a diagnostic port next to the distributor on a 79 528i. Assuming the test equipment that plugs into the port is obsolete, is this part necessary? #7 in the parts diagram. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=3991-USA-06-1979-E12-BMW-528i&d...

Yes it's #3. I think you need this support bracket:

Thanks HiLux30. Removed the injectors for cleaning and wow is there lots of oil residue in the intake manifold and runners. Valves are spotless but I have to believe the accumulated gunk reduces air flow efficiency a bit. What brand/ type of catch can are you using on the BMW? And where did you moun...

Agree, I wouldn't drive on any tire older than 6 or 7 years, especially on the freeway. Michelin still makes the original equipment MXV in a slightly taller 205/70 14 but I would bet the grip is no better than a modern all season tire, especially if you have stock suspension components. They're also...
