I can remove my ignition key with the car running. This is evidently the result of wear, but does anyone know if this "feature" correlates to impending failure? It's handy for checking my mailbox at the end of the street without having to turn off the car to remove the key.

Hey Karl, that is odd. My recollection is that the studs on the guide support are equally spaced around the circumference so orientation should not be an issue. The rubber dampers (if you have them) do have an orientation according to the blue book (tabs facing front and rear).

I have a few worm-drive hose clamps that I could try at the same time. McMaster Carr has bolt clamps in a bunch of sizes that can take 75 ft-pounds at the bolt. I'm not sure how that translates to circumferential compression. What's your gut say?
