you could consider taking apart the distributor, the points assembly and all to clean and lubricate all that. Not sure if that is possible but old lubricants are the cause of so many problems. I have a distributor, ECU and a few other parts if you want to borrow anything to swap in.

I've never solved a problem replacing a coil, although I have a dozen spares collected over the years. Maybe someone can tell me what makes one different from another other than the part number and some need ballast resistors.

The regulator shows availability, likely not for long.

When it goes NLA an alternative is an adjustable unit from possibly Summit Racing.

first off, with new gaskets don't use sealant. Excess will burn and poison your O2 sensor. The proper feel of torque by hand is a learned skill.

Your best bet is to take it to someone who can make you a new one. Or weld in a pierce to fix yours.

I'd like to introduce my favorite tool. It's a relatively heavy piece of wire with alligator clips on each end. This 12 foot long jumper is ideal for testing things like rear window motors at the door. Clip one end to the battery, and tickle the connectors to the motors in the door. A second jumper ...

Check all the hoses at the pump & filter, they get brittle.

How about this: Look at your engine today. You need to re-use the oil pan Look at the engines others say will work. Make sure the new oil pan clears the subframe. Put the 2 pans side by side while out of the car. Now plan to use just about everything you already have. Including the oil pump. PS pump...

I do recall not being able to use the B35 power steering pump becasue it bolts to the oil pan. My 77 has all the 530i pump and alternator. I created a power braking system from the B35 donor car, no more vacuum booster.

Motronic, not moronic :D

Or resign yourself to lightening your wallet a bit and having the remnants of a dying art fix it before they are all gone. Sort of like the guys at Pacific Fuel injection, you cannot get mechanical bosch gasoline pumps rebuilt many places anymore.
