Re: 77 530i Auto trans "kick down" linkage picture?
I don't think that 79 528i is the same as Karls 77 530i. My 77 530i didn't have that cable coming from the throttle body. Is that the accelerator cable?. My 77 has a solid rod and pivot type accelerator linkage. Karl my car had the Borg warner 3 spd, unfortunately I just removed all that and took th...

Re: 76 530i Aux Air Valve aka Jules Verne Device
Karl, Check out my project post in Gallery. Its on page 3 . My AAV was stuck and I took it all apart and cleaned and lubed it. It seems to work better now although it doesnt actually open all the way or close all the way. Hope that helps

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
Champie, OK thx for the info. I hadn't heard of newspaper before. Sounds a good option to the bread. I've had my eye out for a broken 4 spd for a while . I had an opportunely to get my hands on one a while ago but I had to pull it from the car and I was too lazy. Hoping to find one locally someday f...

Re: difficult or PITA bolts etc - for amusement!
I got a pita nut removal.I just had to remove the heater valve after finding it was dripping while I was in there removing the pedal box and driveshaft. http://www.firstfives.org/faq/heater_valve/heater_valve.html. I followed this thread to remove the valve without removing all the blower motors etc...

Re: Speedo cable drive oring replacement
Well I managed to pop out the sleeve that is holding the seal inside the speedo drive housing. I dont think the hydrualic method would work on this Mike , the housing is like a metal tube, there nothing to stop the oil from just coming out the other end. I bend a small scewdriver and then tapped the...

Mike , great work as always. I've never seen that interior block paint before. Very interesting. Of course most of what you are doing I haven't seen before. Good luck with the move etc. And also with the garage planning and building.

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
Lock, Brass bushing? OK, Like I said I was expecting to find either a 32 mm bearing or the bushing and smaller 21 mm needle bearing but not this. I guess prior to 77 or maybe 78 they just had a 21mm hole. Very odd indeed. So far I am the only person to actually have seen this, at least reported it. ...

Speedo cable drive oring replacement
Im currently working on resealing the Getrag 265 Im going to put in my 530. I pulled out the speedo drive from the transmission and according to realoem there are two Orings and a "bush" suppose to be on the drive. The big outer one is no problem to replace but there is an inner Oring that...

Re: Brake line Routing?
I just replaced one of the hard lines going from the front caliber to the soft line, so about a 1 foot section. I just bought generic brake line with the correct fittings at a local auto parts place. Bumper to bumper. They had a great selection of sizes and lengths. And cheap as well. Worked great. ...

Ive always used BMW blue, I don't really know if its better but I've heard some people say its overly expensive. Last I looked it was $2 more a 4 litre jug than the stuff walmart was selling.

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project
Mike I was just rereading some of your post and I see in the section where you are cleaning up the jules vern device. Did you disasemble or test this item? In my project posting I show how I tested it and found it to be corroded and not functioning. I tapped it apart and lubed it up. Its works bette...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
Haha, Yeah soon to be remedied from auto to manual. Although this isn't really an auto or manual issue. This crank is odd because its an early version. In fact this pertains to you as your car is an early version. Come to think of it, whats the end of your crankshaft look like? 21mm hole or 32 mm ho...
