front fender rust - near sill.
One of the issues with this car - and all my others actually - is rust about the front fenders, at the sill level - this is where road muck gets caught against the inner wheel well liner, creating a nice spot for this muck to accumulate, and with constant wetting eventually it causes rust from the i...

Re: Headlight R + R
Dave, wow they look terrific - just by cleaning the inside via the small globe hole. I was considering separating the lens from the mount - seems to be only sealant holding it in. I read on the E9 coupe site that some have put the whole thing in an oven @ 110 deg for 15 mins, till the sealant soften...

Most of My headlights , particularly the inner high beams, have become foggy, which is a licensing fail. Typically the inner high beams are Hella units 1K3 114 155-001 , Hella part no HL 1053 A to take a H1 55w globe with lends id number 14464R8 The outer low/high beam lights I think are Hella Units...

Re: ZF 3HP22 - goes then stops after 5 mins
I just found this valve body overhaul page for the ZF 4HP22EH which maybe helpful to understand these things http://twrite.org/shogunnew/files/jason/4HP22EH_ValveBody/4HP22EH-Valvebody.html Having now looked at this, I wonder if I have the cups orientated correctly and if the checkballs need to be c...

Re: ZF 3HP22 - goes then stops after 5 mins
Once all clean up - the repair manual says to reassemble in reverse order. I basically started at the bottom ( of the drawing ) and worked my way up to the top - leaving the main pressure valve+ converter pressure valve (no 13 + 14) - as I was not too sure how that was to go, as it consisted of 2 va...

Re: ZF 3HP22 - goes then stops after 5 mins

Re: ZF 3HP22 - goes then stops after 5 mins
If I could I would have left the Hydraulic block assembly fixed to the transmission and just remove the 2 cover plates to get at the pistons, but I couldn't get a front plate off due to interferenec with filler hose - so I removed the whole assembly . So now that the assembly is out, began to disman...

windscreen install - FAQ needed
I reckon an FAQ for windscreen install needs to be made up. From what I can gather on various forums, the know how do it on our cars is disappearing, due to modern glass being bonded in. I found this series of youtube video of a 2002 windscreen install that maybe helpful. I've added a written descri...
