M30 Chain Tensioner

Maximillian has a run of these available. They appear to be backordered or NLA on a couple of sites, so that always makes my ears perk up. Do these things ever break or is stashing one of these overkill? My car has 180K miles on her but I have other uses for my parts kitty.

Re: Hood adjustment directions?

You might try to move the wing notches back or the rollers forward slightly to allow the latch at the front to grab. The notches don't have much play IIRC, but I seem to remember the rollers having some fore-aft.

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Right you are about moving stuff with tractor's loader bucket - it's a Godsend. I recently picked up pallet forks for the front of my Kubota compact and a ballast box for the back (your Case probably has a backhoe for counterweight). Good luck with the barrier project, I look forward to seeing Elean...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

The E28 unit would have o-ring fittings, correct? That's a big advantage - no sense wedding yourself to flare fittings and there's precious little space along the side of the console for bulky adaptors.

Re: Condenser Inlet Tube Leak

Oh, so they are on RealOEM. Yeah, on the driver side they look like that, but on the passenger side they look more like the greyed-out part 11, only not exactly. There are two of them stacked together on each side.

Re: Condenser Inlet Tube Leak

I sent the axial/swashplate compressor out for a rebuild and refresh (Automotive Budget, Port Richie, FL) and it's back; prettied up the motor-mount brace plates (Master Coat two-part urethane) and ordered up some new hardware (Belmetric). Hopefully I'll get this mounted up in the next week or so. h...

Excellent and thanks - I thought you might know. That actually makes sense, but I never would have figured that out. They don't appear on realoem.

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

This is great info, thanks Mike. I'm pretty sure (knock on wood) that my evaporator is OK, since I found the leak at the compressor pulley. I had already removed the evaporator to replace the expansion valve and the thought of another dash teardown was ... discouraging to say the least. Interesting ...

Re: Condenser Inlet Tube Leak

I wired it into the OEM harness with the intent of keeping it as a two-speed. I assumed it would work the same as the original blower, but I haven't fully tested its function yet other than to verify it comes on with the AC (stage I). Today is supposed to be warm here so maybe I'll check it out by j...

Re: E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

The only downside is having to change the fittings on the hard lines, which probably means replacing them outright. Not the end of the world and worth doing if the E28 evap core is your only option.

E28 Evaporator core vs. E12

I'm trying to figure out if these are dimensionally the same. They have different part numbers (64 511 3 68 119 / E28 and 64 511 3 62 126 / E12) but use the same expansion valve (64 511 3 54 379). The E28 core has o-ring fittings and the E12 unit has flare. Does anyone know if this is the only diffe...

Now THAT is a garage. Looks like you could fit a semi cab in there without much worry. When Eleanor's done you can practice some drifting INSIDE.

Congrats on the new Temple to Eleanor. At the speed you work, you'll be wrenching by February. Good to hear from you. -Eric

Re: Condenser Inlet Tube Leak

Howdy Dave: I bought a Chinese knock-off crimp tool (Ibosad, sold on amazon for about $140) of the Mastercool 71500, which came with dies for standard and reduced-barrier hoses. Looks like the unit on eBay only has the standard dies. The 71550 doesn't come with the hydraulic handtool, so you need to...

Re: Condenser Replacement

The 14x20 Vintage Air condenser (03261-VUC) fit for me using short-drop 90-degree fittings for the hoses. As tlake has mentioned, you can use the Behr condenser’s mounting tabs on the top. I used a SPAL 30102030 12" swept blade fan with the SPAL 30130011 mounting brackets. These are great becau...
