Re: Radiator replacement

Never used one but I've seen them for sale for a few years. A nice alternative for the slightly custom installation of the E28 radiator for improved cooling, presumably.

Re: Sr441x starter contd.

You should have power going to the coil with the ignition on. Really that's all you need. If you want to replicate the old starter, you would want a full 12 V going to the coil, ONLY WHILE CRANKING! Not once it's started, not switched with the ignition, not when the engine is cold, only while cranki...

Re: Starter Bosch sr441x

No worries on etiquette, we're just trying to solve problems. For clarity you might add a couple of paragraph breaks between things. OK, on the wire going to the coil, it's only used during starting to give a hotter spark during starting. It should fire up and run fine without it, but they did put i...

Re: Starter Bosch sr441x

10 hours? Wow. It's not a 20 minute job, but that's a long time. Whatever. This thread has a lot of detail on it that I think all applies. https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/101511-bosch-sr441x-starter-wiring-question-solved/ You shouldn't hear the solenoid spinning, it's an electromagnet that ...

Re: max 14" tire size?

I've always looked towards wider rather than taller tires. Problem today is there's not many choices left in 14". In the past I've run 225-60/14s, but not anything taller.

Re: Accelerator Bowden Cable

It might be one of those things that only comes with a new cable. But if it just screws on, why not buy a new cable and just use that part of it? That way at least you wouldn't be into the tranny.

Re: Accelerator Bowden Cable

Your pictures are too small to really be able to tell much from them, but going off your description I'm guessing what you mean. And I found the following. It's kind of a dead end on Realoem, but search the part number and it does come up elsewhere, just not Realoem. Currently one on ebay for $70 or...

Re: Blower motor fuse?

Thanks Mike! The PO actually soldered a new, flat fuse in there and the connection was lose. When I bumped into it, the blower started going. Not sure how to get the AC going. It is only the upper fan that runs It can be done. The '80 E24 I once had was a mess in there, the rotary switch had melted...

Re: Blower motor fuse?

I'm pretty sure when turned to max, it bypasses that circuit board and the big power transistor, a 2955 IIRC.

Re: ATF leak at speedo drive

Sometimes bearing shops will surprise you with what they carry if you can get it out without destroying it. Again, all they can do is say no.

Re: Blower motor fuse?

It appears it would be fuse 14 on E12 528i's. E24s of course are somewhat different, especially in the heat and A/C with that goofy variable speed blower, but 14 is a starting point. It should be a blue, 25A fuse. Blower motors do die also, either because the bearings seize up or the brushes just we...

Re: ATF leak at speedo drive

Looking at the diagram it looks to me like there should be another seal or O ring or something. The O ring #20 would seal the outside of that tube, but not the shaft of #19. Maybe the bottom most of the 4 that are part of #24? And I tend to forget about the obvious sometimes, how about checking with...

Re: Brake booster replacement problem! RHD 528i

You of course have that bizarre system over there that BMW put on RHD cars, but I'll take a stab. I bet it's being preloaded. That you need to adjust the link between the master cylinder linkage and the servo, that it thinks the brakes are being applied. Then again, looking at the Realoem pic with t...

Re: Steering Box Adjustment Screw

Mine is way past prime. I was able to pick one up on eBay of unkown origins, so my inclination is to get this new spare rebuilt and then swap it in. I've found Jay's BMW Parts, which says they don't get into the inner workings, but replace the valves and seals and reset the lash. Is that sufficient...

Re: Steering Box Adjustment Screw

I don't think it's removable. Look at #9 in the diagram, I believe that's the screw and it has a flange on it at the bottom which would prevent it from coming out. I think you can remove the cover, #1 and perhaps access it that way. Or maybe just start unscrewing the nut until #9 hits the cover and ...
