Re: Engine Overheating
Well... geeee, whizzz. I wonder if those spades look healthy. Hmmmm. I discovered this just before pulling the rad out and decided to proceed with the pull despite the obvious corrosion at the 99 degree switch. Not sure if the switch is defective or not, but will look further into that when the rad ...

Re: Engine Overheating
I am pulling the rad now. will have it inspected, as I have to believe its plugged up but its not leaking (yet). stay tuned. will now soon. Crazy how hard it was to find a guy that still rods radiators. three guys in business for 20+ years all said nobody does that much anymore with lower cost plast...

Re: Engine Overheating
One other possibility is a bad ground. Does the gauge ever move when you turn on the blower or the headlights or anything else? If it does, you might be looking at a bad ground, not an overheating problem. [/quote] I never noticed any such movement on the temp gauge, but will study that next time I ...

Re: Engine Overheating
It was completely rebuilt about 50K ago (or less) before BMW NA used the car in 03 for display in Montvale when they pull the shroud of the E60. The old sat next to the new. Only BMW parts have ever been used on the car. (Speakers are Pioneer tho). It burns no oil and has a very tiny oil leak. Howev...

Re: Engine Overheating
Not doubting you, but that makes no sense./quote] Let me take another stab at this comment. While driving on the highway, the a/c lost is cold air, so I shut it off since running the a/c was making the car run excessively hot, particularly when we we found ourselves in a 30 min backup due to an acc...

Re: Engine Overheating
Thanks Eric and Mike. Pretty sure I know the answer to this... but 'is there a way I can tell if my radiator is original or not?' Or... is there a way I can tell anything about it that will help me to determine its age? I have 2 3-ring binders of records on this car. I have to believe that it has be...

Engine Overheating
I just finished a 3 hour ride from Birmingham to Atlanta in a hot-boxed car. Outside temp is 82F. I dont think my aux fan is kicking on. How can I test it. I suppose I can run the car to above the center line on the temp gauge again and jump out of the car to see if the fan is on or not. Any thought...

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Sorry Mike. Help me with "IIRC". And to be sure I am understanding what you mean by ratcheting wrench... is the is kind of like a box-end wrench that when turned one way it tightens, flip it over and it loosens. click, click, click?

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Thank you Dave. Fortunately the leak is not serious. I dont need boots to drive the car. I'll circle back when I schedule the replacement. I really appreciate your offer to guide me.

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Good to hear from you, Mike. I spoke with the tech today and he acknowledged that if we were only replacing the valve, no need to remove the dash. He scoped the heater box and found a leak in the heater core, so its got to come out. The new one just arrived from Germany. Do you thing the heater box ...

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Thanks a million Dave. Incidentally... the BMW shop said that the dash has to come out in order to replace the heater box. They think that you replace both the box and valve. Thoughts? also... did you remove your driver seat to make room? I'm 6-3, so I think thats a must if I'm going down, so to spe...
