Not looking at it but I believe there are four white lines. First, left has a blue area, for recommended warm up in neutral, very cold outside air temps. Depending upon the temp of your thermostat, the needle will sit close to one or the other of the next two at normal operating temps. Much above th...

Check the electronic control unit: Aluminum box mounted inside fender opposite air cleaner. Swap out one that you know is good, as used are hard to find and new are about $400. Hot start or die when warmed up drove me crazy changing things you have. The ECU is some kind of computer spark control tha...

Testing aux fan working

My last question was aimed at the four prong lower radiator sensor on my 635. As both my 528i's have ( non working ) a/c, aux fans, how do I know if they work? Best of my knowledge both cooling systems are tip top, never had any problems. I can tell when it's 95 degrees, humid, but so far no needles...

Thanks to all. The silly motor is nothing; pulling the eight screws and the top cover, then the six piece plastic flub a dub shrouds, clips, straps is stupid. When I cleaned everything with electronic spray cleaner I'll bet that cleaned out the bearings too. I used silicone spray on the bearings wit...

Whatever the specs, I stripped the engine last year. All of the pieces were identical to my '79 528i. That is to say largely identical, as some pieces have the casting (as in the thermostat housing) where the '79 is drilled/tapped for a sensor. The alternator has no mount bushings (solid holes), etc...

Clarification

We're teaching thick here.

Plug vacuum lines, set throttle to 2200, set mark with light, tighten, reattach vacuum lines.

If it pings ( burning premium as I believe compression on 635 Euro is 9:1), try settings at LOWER RPMs ?

Thereby retarding timing,...

Thank you

So the four prong lower radiator sensor is basically for activating the electric fan in front of the smaller radiator for the air conditioning. In front of the main radiator, rather blocking it some. As long as the a/c isn't used, car isn't driven much or on days hot enough to push the cooling limit...

Blower fan chirps

Chirpy blower fan. Pull top plate cover (635), motor sits in place with two circle straps, flip clips. Fan cylinders on axle enclosed in black plastic shrouds. Easy enough to get the motor (?), center axle w/ fans on each end out, but what is squeaking, chirping when the dash dial around the clock, ...

3.5 euro timing

Looking for timing specs @ rpm for Jetronic euro 3.5 engine.

Our 528's are 2200 rpm, a post suggesting 1850 to advance. I've seen 633's @ 1650, but unable to find any spec sheets.

Radiator hex sensor

635, bottom radiator coolant outlet, large brass hex sensor with four pins, plugs to wires.

Two flats are broken off to prevent plugs from connecting. Is this about a/c only ? Not functioning yet anyway.

If it's big for relaying coolant temp to gauge, it's shopping time.

Thank you. Guess I'm back, can't live without easy answers. All I have to do is keep clicking until I figure out how this over engineered spam deflector works. No offense, I know it's better for the ex spam eraser crew. Don't know what was wrong with it. Hub okay, sleeve okay but it wobbled until th...

Loose fan clutch

Spring start up 635. Rebuilt last year. Noticed old style (bolt) fan clutch cycling, then wobbling. Shut down, the center bolt is loose. Not enough room to access without pulling the radiator. (?). Reading, as I swear I tightened that bolt, I see, " Tab washers," referenced ? Which I don't...
