Thanks for that tip, Mike. Scouring MyE28 again also pointed out questioning the place of manufacture. It turns out those GMB pumps are made in China and that just makes me queezy. That's one danger of internet ordering and a car this old doesn't give much other choice. I've got a couple cube relays...

Mike W. - GMB water pump
Mike W.,
I think this is the GMB water pump which you're a pretty big fan of?
The image has a pretty good shot of the stamped impeller you were talking about in older posts.

E12 vs. E28 door comparison
This might be a question bested suited for past/present owners of both E12s and E28s (Mike W., Chris Kohler, Sherman, ....?). So, our interchange FAQ has the doors and glass interchangeable. Since the rear door seals are NLA now for the E12, it would be good to know if the door seals are interchange...

M30B** reference?
What's a good reference to review for self education on the different
variations of the M30 (B**) motor? I'm fairly familiar with our own FAQs, so I don't think it's anywhere in there?

Blaise, Let us know if you end up sourcing the inside weatherstrip. I've been talking to Konrad over at Maximillian - I wasn't aware of a P/N problem which provides a sliver of hope. I'm trying to source most stuff ahead of the project; it should be easier with the window stuff apart to ID and attac...

Yeah, that video would carry a lot more weight if there were a few names on the competitor products. Since about 1999, I've been running a second fuel filter. It was originally aimed at catching particulates, but it could also have beneficial value in trapping water. It's a spin-on design (NAPA 3225...

I tried a 2 oz bottle of Ethanol Shield to treat 10 gallons on the last fill-up. Like most additives, it will be pretty much impossible to measure any effects, especially in the short term. I try to drive, or at least start, the car every 2 to 3 weeks, but longer term projects can make that interval...

fuel additives for ethanol-based gasoline
Anyone running an additive to curb the possible corrosive effects of the latest ethanol-blended gasolines? I'm think of trying the Ethanol Shield product in the E12. http://www.b3cfuel.com/products/ethanol-shield/ This product comparison video strongly supports Ethanol Shield. Interesting how all th...

Bumping the post. There's leaking everything else threads, so I'm thinking this isn't the first. Last time I was in there in 2008, I thought the rebuilder left off the flat gasket under the front cover, but the parts diagram doesn't show one for the Getrag 265. I added one myself, figuring it couldn...

Getrag 262 vs. 265 input seals
I've been living with a pesky leak from the input shaft area on a rebuilt Getrag 265 for years. I've put Redline in it from acquisition, so I know it's transmission oil and not engine oil from rear crankshaft seal. I replaced all the inputs seals once and it made no difference. I've long thought the...

anyone done window guides & weatherstripping lately?
My driver door manual hand crank recently broke, so I'm hitting all the restoration stuff I've put off inside the door. I've basically sourced almost everything, except the weatherstripping materials (interior/exterior seals that hug the window bottom) for earlier E12s appear NLA. There's a brief FA...

Someone with an E24 will have to chime in on the location. On the E12 (77 530i), it's one of the 4-prong cube relays inside the fuse box. Robert Where might be the relief relay on an '81 633 ? There is a relay with 4 large red and red w/ green stripe wires plugged into it. It has a tab on the rear t...

Re: Holding RPM, it drops.
I had a problem just like that that was solved by fixing a solder joint in the combo relay like in the FAQ. AFter the car started, the fuel pressure just died away. Maintaining power to the fuel pump with engine running is one of the relay's functions. Robert Starts right up. Rev it to 2,000 and hol...
