Could a 2'' piece of billet steel be fabricated to act as a spacer between the driveshaft and the diff? Drill out bolt holes to match? Maybe have it balanced ? What were the major issues with the carbs? But you're probably right about going to FI.

Would this be a fairly straight forward swap besides converting the pedal setup? Also would the intake and carb setup bolt right up to the 530i block....same M30?

I'd bet money on the alternator bearing.

Anyone know what early BMWs these filters fit? They are round so I'm thinking maybe 2002 or CSi? Been sitting on my parts shelf forever. Hoping I could pass them on to a BMW owner who could use them.

Yes put a stethoscope on the the alternator. It could be the bearing in there that is failing. Or maybe a poor aftermarket water pump? Be careful with the stethoscope....don't get it caught in any moving parts.

What kind of lubricant are you spraying on there? Try to use something more substantial than WD40.

Are you sure the water pump isn't seized up?

Doh! My eyesite must be going. So that would be 43 psi. I believe generic fuel pumps for carburetor engines would be 3.5 or 5 psi so not sure if that is enough pressure to run a fuel injected motor?

The link for that ebay pump did not show up? What psi does that pump put? I believe 30 metric bar is pretty high pressure. Looked it up and see that 30 metric bar is 435psi????. Can that be correct?

I want to start a parts 530i that has a missing fuel pump. I'd like to swap in a cheaper generic pump.What kind of pump pressure would I need?

I have replaced that cable. It's a pretty straight forward procedure ' You just have to make sure you get all the little pieces in the right places and don't kink the cable. Looking at the diagram it would seem that part 8 is separate from part 9 but I don' recall how they were fastened together?
