Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right
I believe the stock sway bar can be removed without lowering the subframe. Larger diameter sway bars are a tighter fit and need more clearance. Remove the wheel for easier access and use a floor jack under the spindle to raise and lower the suspension as needed to install the links. The bar's only a...

Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right
I did some more checking under the car. The car has some really thick sway bars, i measured them and its a 24mm sway bar. I don't have my car handy to check but RealOEM lists the diameter as 23mm. Seems to me upgrades are 27mm. Others? I then proceeded to take the end links out and pull on the sway...

Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right
Blown out strut insert or strut mount bearing. Bad struts would make your car noticeably porpoise. It's likely the strut bearing if they're the original ones. They seem to be pretty stout on e12s but eventually the rubber deteriorates or the bearings seals go and the clunking starts. You should feel...

Re: e12 temperature question
Had a similar situation where is ran hotter at lower rpm’s. Turned out to be improper belt tension from previous work.

Re: 1981 bmw e12
That ECU part number was specced for E12s, 23s and early 24s all with L Jet. You say you have fuel and spark and it ran at one time. I assume you have compression. Did you change the fuel filter when you cleaned the tank and lines? Have you done any work since it last ran? Wouldn't hurt to replace t...

Re: Red Line in gearbox and differential?
Have used it in all my cars for years. Like butter. Except the 78 F150, that thing'll run with no oil.

How about starting with those that build similar engines: Metric Mechanic, Ireland Engineering, Korman, Coupe King...?

Re: BMW Cloth Upholstery Material Width?
Rooting through the Wallothnesch catalog they show a width of 1400 mm for vinyl which is 55" if that's any reassurance.

Re: Cylinder head
Always surprises on these somewhere around 40 year old cars. You can get carried away with the "while I'm in there" approach and may find a few more surprises. Hopefully it's not your only car... Removing the cylinder head is pretty easy, just a matter of removing intake and exhaust compon...

Re: Euro Bumper mounting help
That's exactly how I attached my front bracket as well Lock. And now I wish I had taken pics along the way but of course I wanted to do the work and not spend time with a camera! The front brackets have a tab used to secure the horns on the euro models. The tab will have to be cut off if present. A ...

Re: Euro Bumper mounting help
They look like the wrong brackets and they're bent. When building a house, the foundation must be level and square otherwise poor measurements magnify into problems. I found assembling and mounting euro bumpers using new parts required a fair amount of adjusting - I would just order the correct new ...

Re: Euro Bumper mounting help
Adam, Sounds like the brackets could be upside down? Do the outer bumper sections line up with the holes in the rear quarters? One fender hole is used when attaching the forward bumper edge to the body, the other larger hole is not used. This would indicate if it's not positioned correctly to the bo...
