Distributor shaft wobble?
How much side to side wobble ,if any, should there be in the distributor shaft? Looks like side to side movement would play havoc with the point gap???? I believe there should be some up and down movement of the shaft but not excessive.

Re: Bypassing the combo relay????
I just reread the distributor removal and installation procedure in the manual I must have been thinking of the dist install on my TR3 in my last post. I'll swap in the Peronix unit and see what happens. I'll order points and condensor for the other unit. I'll post the result.

Re: Bypassing the combo relay????
Well I'm not getting spark at the plugs and i am running points and condensor. I'll have a look at the points to see if they are pitted. Maybe I can clean them up with some 1000 grit paper. Not sure if I have a good set of points kicking around But I will have a look. Could be a bad condensor as the...

Re: Bypassing the combo relay????
Mike I did send a post called No start Update but maybe you did not see it? i was able to take the circuit board out of the relay and it looks like some of the contact points are degraded. I checked some of the posts in the archives and it seems that there is a high probability that the combo relay ...

Bypassing the combo relay????
Is this somehow possible? The 61311358269 relay is NLA. The latest one 1363273139 is also NLA. The relay I removed from car is 0332514120 which is used in Porsche 914, VW Beetes from the mid 70's and some Transporters T1 and Type2. This is also NLA. Is there a way to temporarily bypass this relay or...

No Start Update
No spark at the plugs. 8 volts at the coil but no spark to the Dist. A loud "click" coming from the Combo relay. figure the combo relay must be the issue. 'll have to take it apart to see if the contacts can be soldered. The relay on there now is black plastic. Seems to me I have seen othe...

Combo Relays?
Is there a simple way to test a combo relay? Are they even available for a 530i? Where is the best place to buy one. I've read the Faq in the Tech forum about soldering the contact points.

No start procedure?
What's the best procedure to track down a 'no start' issue? I imagine checking for spark first. Check for fuel flow? What is the best way to check if it's the 'combo relay'?. If this has been covered before is there a link I could go to? It's a few degrees below zero here. Yesterday I went to start ...

Re: 76 530i motor&5spd into a 74 Bavaria?
Well what kind of steel is the rear flange made of? I have extra drive shafts that I could cut the rear driveshaft flanges from and weld those to the existing shaft to make up the 2'' difference at the diff end. Use a strong grade of bolt. Of course the unit would have to be be balanced at a shop th...

Re: 76 530i motor&5spd into a 74 Bavaria?
Well after reading your adventures with those carbs I see that FI would be the way to go. I think installing the FI wiring might be a challenge for me. Now I know why the owner wants to sell the car. He's actually in another province than I am so just communicating with him by email. He says he has ...
