Re: The stock E28 Getrag 5 speed that I put in my E12......

Thanks for the info. In that case I have the 265/6 unit. Any idea what they sell for or is there even a demand for them? I sometimes see similar Getrags go for $1400 or more on Ebay but they are usually in Lithuania or Greece.

Re: Heater, A/C Controls total Rebuild

I haven't used it for heater controls but it is a cream like grease that looks like it is unlikely to get sticky and dry out. Just my thoughts there may e synthetic grease available that would do as well.

Re: Quicker starting....

I'm going to use this car as a winter car. Up here we have a heater element in the block for -30 Celcius temps. It's a little too soon to be plugging it in now but when I did plug it in the other night to test the block heater the car fired up right away in the morning. This leads me to believe that...

Re: Quicker starting....

Well I got that wrong. It's been awhile since I worked on this car. I just read Peter Florence's article on the L-Jet system and now I'm thinking the Coolant temperature sensor in the thermostat may have corrosion on it and that is causing the problem.

Re: Quicker starting....

Quicker starting....

On the first start of the day on my 530i it does not fire up right away but takes till about the third turn of the key. before it fires up. The battery is new and fully charged and the motor is tuned up. The car starts up perfectly after the motor is warmed up. Just wondered if there was something I...

Re: 1976 530i motor into an 83 528E

That's good to know. The owner of the 528e says the belt was changed so that's a good sign. If I remember correctly when I had a shop install the 5 speed in the 530i they took the speedo gear out of the 4 speed to use. Does that sound right to you?

Re: 1976 530i motor into an 83 528E

Yah it's probably not a practical idea. I might buy the 528e anyway. It has the 5spd with a shift kit. The story behind it is it has been sitting for 2 years because of a no start condition. Other than that it is in pretty decent shape. I googled 528e no start and read about a guy who replaced many ...

1976 530i motor into an 83 528E

Would the M30 block fit. I'm still trying to find a use for my 530i engine with 5spd from my wrecked car. (the 5 speed that I put in the wrecked 530i was from a 528E) Is this doable as I know of a 528E with an unknown motor problem that is going for cheap?
