Fuel Injector and AFM connecters
During a winter refresh, I decided to replace the cracked original AMP fuel injector connector housings as well as the housing where the wiring connects to the MAF (7 prongs). This requires extracting the pigtails from the old housings and inserting into the new. I carefully marked the wire orientat...

Coolant refill
I drained the coolant from the block via the plug beneath the exhaust manifold as well as the radiator when I replaced the thermostat housing, water pump and all hoses. Does coolant reach the block when refilling through the expansion tank or should the block be primed with coolant during assembly? ...

The cap is meant to be cut as the new reservoirs are intended for both automatic and manual configurations. A good parts manager will tell you the replacements are intended for several models, most likely including the early e24s in this case. Do you need the correct blue cloth braided hose from the...

Jcat, If not already, I recommend replacing inner and outer bearings as well as seals on both sides. Also use a grease with a drop point of at least 500. The drop point is the temperature at which the grease loses its viscosity and becomes liquid. I use Red Line synthetic CV-2 which is >800. The man...

I know this is a simple suggestion, but have you rotated the engagement side of the clamp to the low side? Are you installing the cover upside down? Thank you. No offense taken! When you're knee-deep in a problem, sometimes it's hard to see the big picture and simple things get missed. I'm definite...

Re: injector secret sauces- The most miles I ever put on a BMW was 235k on an 02 325i. I treated it to a round of liqui moly fuel injection and valve cleaner every 60k and when I sent out the original injectors at 200k they tested almost like new for flow. Some may disagree but I primarily use Shell...

I just picked up a set and the parts manager and I were wondering the same thing and also how many people bother to replace them. They look like cardboard but are actually tough like a phenolic resin material. The guess is they're there to absorb vibration - it's kind of an unusual set up but must s...

I agree it seemed more intimidating than it is. Cleaning the area really helps and loosening the tank bolts lowers it just enough to more easily feed the lines into the rear of the wheel well. Belmetrics carries the correct metric cloth braided fuel line as well as reasonably priced stainless clamps...

The trim pieces on either side of the tool kit? The passenger side shows as still available.

I have a set in usable but not perfect condition if you're interested.

Not much you can do when they're broken like that. They usually break when trying to loosen the rusted on nut. I realize it's too late but I always use anti seize on these. The plastic frame is listed as still available but you likely won't be thrilled with the price. There's decent used complete ta...

Re: Charcoal canister...
What happens if the charcoal is worn out or or the canister is disconnected or bypassed? My guess is that it's meant to be replaced at some point relative to an emissions requirement. I simply glued foam on the bottom to replace the foam that had deteriorated to prevent the charcoal pellets from fa...

The charcoal cannister is in the passenger side front fenderwell on the inside behind the headlight bucket. There's a hard line coming from the gas tank area that exits the frame rail area almost underneath the ac drier cannister which connects to the charcoal canister via a cloth braided rubber lin...
