Re: Brake line Routing?

Thanks for the info. :D Karl, Take a look at the following image. While it's just a "blueprint", it should give you somewhat of an idea of where everything is. If it's not helpful, then at least you have a high-resolution image of our E12s. https://drawingdatabase.com/wp-content/uploads/2...

Re: Brake line Routing?

Karl, I don't have a definite answer for you, but the RealOEM diagram shows that the brake line runs in a straight line on the left of the vehicle (driver side). I suspect it may be hiding above the fuel tank if you don't see it. Eleanor is currently resting on her tires and not the floor jacks, oth...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Mike I was just rereading some of your post and I see in the section where you are cleaning up the jules vern device. Did you disasemble or test this item? In my project posting I show how I tested it and found it to be corroded and not functioning. I tapped it apart and lubed it up. Its works bett...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Wait until he builds the drop forge to make new conrods from steel he smelts in his garage blast furnace. That's going to really bake our noodles, Dave. Eric, LMAO!!! Right now, I am in the process of reaming the conrod bushings. I messed a couple up, so I am re-ordering some extras. I set th...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal

Mike. Thx for comment. The TIS diagram you have shows a manual bellhousing with slave cylinder. I just removed an automatic transmission, and according to realoem diagram they use diff parts fro the auto torque converter. In the includeded diagram it shows part 1 and 2. Should be a sleeve and needl...

Re: Found online TIS that covers our M30's

Yeah, I mirrored the website to my desktop. Now, I have an offline copy whenever I need it.

The program I used was "httrack". It's a free Windows program that allows you to download entire copies of websites.

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal

Hmmm.... that's odd. If you look at the TIS, there should be a gap behind the pilot bearing and the bearing wall. Here's what the TIS shows. Refer to #'s 1 and 2: http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/cross_diagram_of_clutch_assembly.jpg Perhaps your bearing was pressed in too far for bread to have an...

Found online TIS that covers our M30's

I've been working steadily on the "Eleanor" rebuild project and I stumbled on the below website when I was researching what direction I should place the connecting rod bushing's gap. This TIS covers the E23 model, but I found a LOT of the content to apply to our E12's; in particular, our e...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal

You know about the bread trick too? I would absolutely do that; it hasn't failed me yet with pressing out pilot bearings. For those who DON'T know about using bread to remove pilot bearings, you squeeze pieces of bread inside the bearing race and use a socket with extension in reverse (or other soli...

Some people might have difficulty viewing the videos I posted in my last update. Here they are via YouTube: https://youtu.be/Lb_t9YnubDM (Micrometer setting and bar prep). https://youtu.be/djsAX2Recf4 (Bar automatic retraction). https://youtu.be/hImT6zaqEUo (Bar in operation). Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Boring_bar_suspended1.jpg As the boring bar weighs ~250lbs, there was NO way I was going to heft it myself. Luckily, it has a lifting eye at the top, allowing my engine hoist to move said bar to where I need it. http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Boring_bar_susp...

The new 92mm pistons (91.97mm to be exact) arrived a couple weeks ago, but I was able to finally press out the gudgeon pins and ultrasonically clean them. http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Fragile.jpg "Fra-gie-leah"....must be French  http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Gummy_piston...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Long time, no post! So, during this posting hiatus, I've sourced a set of 91.97mm pistons, an 86mm crankshaft, and some odds and ends from Patina (thank you!). I'm one of those people who much rather do car work myself, and delegate only those items I am not equipped to handle to machine shops. Howe...
