Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
OK so this mystery may be solved. I also made a posting regarding this issue on Mye28. And have been in contact with my very good friend RalphinSocal. It looks like this car being an early model built 10/76 has the early crank with a 21 mm hole. This crank uses a 12x21 mm needle bearing vs the later...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
Mike. Thx for comment. The TIS diagram you have shows a manual bellhousing with slave cylinder. I just removed an automatic transmission, and according to realoem diagram they use diff parts fro the auto torque converter. In the includeded diagram it shows part 1 and 2. Should be a sleeve and needle...

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
OK well that didnt work at all. The bread didn't do anything. The problem I see is this is just a sleeve and its smooth metal all the way to the bottom of the hole. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49947013482_837fa2191d_c.jpg UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_2ff4 by Dave Grayson , on Flickr I rigged up a ...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project
Mike, I got to say the work you are doing here is amazing. I've never seen someone doing this type of stuff at home. Frankly this post is a little depressing as I know I'll never be able to come close to this level of self sufficiency or ability. Thx for posting all the great pics and info. Keep the...

Re: Found online TIS that covers our M30's
Thx for posting, I've seen these online versions specifically for the e12 before. No idea where exactly they are. These things seem to disappear after a few years

Re: Sleeve and needle bearing removal
OK thx Mike. Thats what Ill do. I was kind of surprised to see that type of bearing in there.I've never had to use this method but was aware of it although I wasnt sure it was applicable as there doesn't appear to be a way for the bread to get behind the sleeve. We shall see. Thx for the reply.

Sleeve and needle bearing removal
I just removed the automatic trans from my car and am cleaning things up getting ready for the 5spd. I was going to remove the rear main seal and replace it. When I was looking at the spot where the new sealed pilot bearing will go I realized Ive never heard how to remove what looks like a sleeve an...

Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right
Just a note that if you need to replace your strut mounts, the E12 front strut mount (part no. 31331101663) is identical to Part 31331106060 for the 2.5CS-3.0 CSL (04/1971 — 11/1975) and the 2500-3.3Li (08/1968 — 02/1977) with the exception of the length of the locator bolts. The 6060 part is much ...

Re: Engine block paint / coating recommendations?
Looks great. I did the same to my engine block when I had the intake off. although looks like you did a perfect job removing the rust and old paint. I just removed the worst and covered it up with paint. Nice job

Re: Cylinder head
Excellent write up there Jon. I would add that as far as I know the headbolts are not stretch bolts or "torque to yield" and can be used again. I used mine again without any problems but if your fussy you can buy new ones. From what I've read most guys do the timing chain while in there . ...

Re: Vanishing coolant discovered
No problem, I did have a pic posted of the realoem schematic of the two coolant hoses that go in and out in the engine bay to help you but it doesn't seem to have worked. Good luck with that hopefully its just a loose clamp.

Re: Exhaust Manifold and Thermal Reactors
I don't know much about headers, I've heard some of them don't fit well and then you have to pay someone to weld to connect to the rest of your system. Personally I like BMW exhaust systems. Theres used stuff out there and I think all the mufflers for these cars are available new. Not cheap but hey'...
