Re: Early e12 seat rails - similar chassis to..?
Here's some photos - and you're right my passenger side has the raised frame due to no seat tilting option. I was going to tackle that later because it seemed like a huge pain. Can this metal sheeting be cut away, and if so, what's underneath? You can sort of see in that photo the hump in the middle...

Early e12 seat rails - similar chassis to..?
My seats are falling apart. I have some e34 seats and found that although my car is a '79 it has the earlier floorpan with three studs per side and the floor hump, which is not compatible with the e28/e34 seat rails unlike the later (80-81) e12 chassis which have the two boltholes and flat floor. Do...

Re: zf 3hp 22 transmission oil change.
Yea I found and used that same manual from aussiefrogs. Their forums have some good discussions of fixing the 3hp22. I ordered a complete 3ph22 gasket kit from eBay, just some random store. You could post at aussiefrogs and ask those guys too, their cars seem to be autos more than ours so some of th...

Re: E12 Project help needed - e28 rear end swap
Once you have the e28 rear end, even if it is drums, you could then put on e34 control arms with discs as they are a direct fit (and an upgrade). I know you said e34 parts are rare, but hopefully they are more common than e28 parts. Plus you could order some e34 control arms and parts from ebay or s...

Re: Pertronix Ignition
When I was looking into Pertronix a while ago the instructions said they're just 'plug and play' for an existing car, so I don't see why not. No changes to the coil, ballast resistors or anything. But someone who has installed one would know for sure.

Re: E12 Project help needed - e28 rear end swap
Thanks for this info. I am picking up an e28 rear subframe and pieces next weekend to do this. I think I actually have a picture of your setup I found somewhere which I used for reference, or at least an identical e3 with e28 and sway bay tabs welded on the arms.

Re: Electrical Problem
We don't have any kind of auto priming with our fuel pumps, they only turn on when the AFM door flap moves due to airflow so the pump won't operate unless you take the rubber boot off and push the flap (I slide a long screwdriver in there and poke it when I need to). I put in a 2-second relay timer ...

Re: zf 3hp 22 transmission oil change.
If you still have issues or want to dig deeper, go a little further and remove the valve body. You already take out half the bolts when replacing the filter, and this transmission is so simple it's one item of two pieces sandwiched together with a gasket in between. I did this when chasing a 1-2nd s...

Re: E12 Project help needed - e28 rear end swap
Definitely see if you can find an e28 rear subframe with disc brakes because that will solve your issues. Also you can use some e34 parts such as the trailing arms. But in the meantime, you can get a speedo disc for the axle and mount a reader next to it. I bought one and they are quality. https://w...

Re: Strange Stall/ No Start - Overheated coil?
Check the ballast resistors and wiring to them. If it's getting a full 12V when it should only be getting 6V (or whatever, I don't know the spec) it could lead to an overheated coil. Not on BMWs, but I've heard of that happening on other cars. Agree with this - if your ballast resistor is shorted o...

Re: Steering Rack/Column Woes
The clicking sound is not normal, so I would investigate that first. Maybe the locking cylinder, indicator return or something else is getting caught, jamming and causing the symptoms you're seeing. If you mark the alignment of the steering wheel yoke, you can pull the whole steering column off fair...

Re: Dexron II ATF
I use DexIII but that's because I have about 10 bottles of the stuff some former housemates left behind from their unreliable cars so I slowly go through it. Don't forget there's a filter down the bottom of the P/S reservoir which is only a couple of bucks for a new one. I ran a flush of Seafoam tra...

Re: E28 drive shaft compatibility
When I put the Getrag 260/6 I found that the e28 driveshafts had a different profile to the e12, basically the e12 gets narrower before the center bearing where the e28 does not. So the e28 driveshaft might hit that area. You can kind of see it in my picture below, if the driveshaft keeps going forw...

Re: ANOTHER injector leaking
Mine had clamps - I assumed they were required to seal. Got a reman deal through rockauto and replaced them all - no leaks. However never never cut with a knife vertically in line with the barb as the fuel will use that as a channel and leak. When I took the old injectors off someone had done just t...

Re: HELP with Blower Fan Dial
Is it difficult to remove that panel? One of my vent/fresh air sliders is broken, part is NLA anyway but it would be good to see if it can be repaired, and lubricate the fan dial.
